흔히 칼바드 공화국의 『베른사』와 쌍벽을 이룬다고 평가받는 제국의 중공업 메이커 『라인폴트 그룹』.

총자산은 IBC（크로스벨 국제은행）에 이어 세계 2위, 실질적인 그룹 규모는 세계 최대라고 일컬어지는 이 거대기업도 한때 화약식 대포를 제조하던 루르의 무기공방에 불과했다. 도력 혁명 이후, 군대의 근대화가 진행됨에 따라, 에레보니아라고 하는 거대한 군사국가의 도력 병기의 수요가 폭발적으로 늘어났는데, 그 공급을 라인폴트가 맡게 되었다. 또한, 인구 증가에 따른 사회 인프라 정비 및 철도망 확충사업을 따내면서 라인폴트는 무기공방을 넘어 오늘과 같은 세계적인 기업이 되었다.

특이한 점은 RF 그룹의 회장은 제국의 귀족 계급이 아니라는 것이다. 선대 회장, 그웬 라인폴트. 그리고 그웬 라인폴트의 딸이자 현 회장인 이리나 라인폴트. 사실, 제국의 대귀족을 능가하는 자산을 지닌 기업의 톱이 「평민」에 불과한 데는 이유가 있다. 바로 제국이라는 이름의, 신구 세력이 뒤섞인 국가의 『세계적인 기업의 오너가 귀족』이라는 사실이 얼마나 위험한지 누구나──심지어 귀족세력조차──알기 때문이었다.

예를 들어, RF 본사가 있는 루르시의 영주는 사대명문의 하나인 『로그너 후작가』인데, 만일 후작가가 영내에 있는 RF 그룹의 소유를 주장했을 경우 귀족 세력 내의 균형이 크게 흔들릴 것으로 예상된다.

（※로그너 후작가는 대귀족 중의 대귀족이지만 사대명문 내에서는 공작인 카이엔과 알바레아 쪽이 더 높다）

라인폴트가가 재력을 이용해서 작위를 얻고자 할 경우 귀족뿐만 아니라 혁신파의 반발이 불가피하므로, 라인폴트는 「명예보다 실리」를 추구하는 데 만족하고 있지 않을까.

전통과 혁신, 구 세력과 신 세력, 지방과 중앙. 라인폴트 기업의 생존 방식은 어떤 의미로는 에레보니아라는 복잡하게 얽힌 거대 제국을 비추는 거울이며, 동시에 이 기업이 제국의 장래를 짊어지고 있는 걸지도 모른다.

The Reinford Group, the largest heavy industry corporation in Erebonia, is often compared to the Verne Company located in the Calvard Republic.

In terms of total assets, it is second only to the IBC (International Bank of Crossbell), and in terms of size it is perhaps the largest corporate group on the continent. Despite its current scope, the Reinford Group was once a humble weapons manufacturer located in Roer, and was responsible for building gunpowder-based cannons.

The advent of the Orbal Revolution, however, led to significant changes in the military, and this process of modernization was all the more pronounced in Erebonia as a military nation. Demands for orbal weaponry exploded, and the Reinford Company met those demands single-handedly.

In addition, the Reinford Company began to handle public infrastructure, including the expansion of the country's railway network, in order to meet the needs of an increasing population. As a result, the company eventually went from being a mere weapons manufacturer to the international company that it is today.

Particularly worthy of note is that the chairman of the Reinford Group is not a member of Erebonia's so-called nobility. This is true of both the former chairman, G. Reinford, and his daughter, I. Reinford, who is the current chairman. 

It is no coincidence that the highest-ranking member of the group, a group which has more assets than the nation's richest nobles, is not part of the aristocracy. Even the Noble Faction is aware of the potential consequences if an international corporation like Reinford was to be led by a noble in a nation such as Erebonia, with its chaotic mix of old and new powers. 

If the lord of the province in which the Reinford Company has its corporate headquarters (currently Marquis Rogner, one of the so-called 'Four Great Houses') were to assert ownership of the group, it would cause a massive upset in the balance of power between the nobility*.

(*While Marquis Rogner remains one of the four most  powerful nobles in the nation, he is still lower in rank than the two dukes, Duke Cayenne and Duke Albarea.) 

On the other hand, if the Reinford family were to use their financial position to attempt to secure a peerage, opposition from both nobles and reformists alike would be inevitable. As a result, the group appears to have decided to focus on financial success rather than gaining a higher social rank. 

The result is a company which exists as a mix of old and new, tradition and reform, province and capital. In a sense, the group is a representation of the complex structure of the Erebonian Empire, and perhaps even tasked with foretelling how the nation will change in the future.
