제10회 룰

제1레이스 개시 15분 전, 조금 전의 VIP룸으로 돌아와 잭과 레너드는 다시 마주했다.

룰은 다음과 같다──

시작은 서로 10만 미라로 시작한다.

그리고 레이스 한번당 살 수 있는 티켓은 한 장까지. 단 패스는 불가. 반드시 한 장은 사야 한다.

빅 레이스에 출주하는 도력차는 매회 12대.

3위 이내에 들어가는 번호를 뭐든 맞추는“멀티”── 가장 맞추기 쉬우므로 배당률이 제일 낮다.

1위의 번호를 맞추는“싱글”── 멀티보다는 맞출 확률이 낮지만 그래도 다른 것에 비하면 높은 편으로 다음으로 배당률이 낮다.

“듀오”와“트리오”── 각각 2위 이내, 3위 이내에 들어오는 번호를 전부 맞출 필요가 있지만, 순위는 상관없다.

당연히 확률이 낮으면 낮을수록 배당률이 높다.

마지막으로“더블”과“트리플”── 각각 1～2위, 1～3위를 순위까지 맞춰야 한다. 특히“트리플”은 맞추기가 굉장히 어려워서 당연히 배당률도 제일 높다.

합계 6종류가 있는 티켓── 이것을 각자 구입한 후, 서로에게 보여주고 경합한다.

거는 액수는 제한 없이 소지하고 있는 미라 얼마를 걸더라도 좋다.

단, 소지금이 0이 되는 시점에서 패배가 결정된다.

오늘 행해지는 레이스는 전부 7번.

전반에 4번, 후반에 3번 행해진다. 그중에서 후반 레이스, 특히 마지막 레이스가 배당률이 가장 높다.

레이스 한 번에 걸리는 시간은 10～15분 정도. 반드시 한 번의 피트인(도력차의 EP 충전 및 타이어 교환 등을 위해 정비소에 들어가는 일)을 하는 것이 의무화되어 있어 들어가기 전후의 스피드를 보는 것도 승부의 볼거리다.

또 각 팀을 구성하는 것은 스폰서라하는 각종 기업이나 단체의 후원이다. 도력차 레이스는 드라이버 개인은 당연하고 공화국의 수많은 세력이 자존심과 평판을 건 진검승부의 무대이다. 또한, 결과를 낸 팀은 막대한 상금도 받을 수 있다.

그렇게 다시 룰을 확인하고 잭과 레너드가 각각 제1레이스 티켓을 구입한다.

Chapter 10 - The Rules

Fifteen minutes before the first race was scheduled to start, Jack and Halle made their way back to the VIP room where they came face to face with Leonard and Nike again.

The rules of the competition were simple.

Each side would begin with 100,000 mira. For each race, each side must purchase one betting ticket; no more, no less. Furthermore, twelve orbal cars would compete in each race.

The types of betting ticket available, meanwhile,were as follows:

1. Show
To win, the chosen car needed to come in either first, second, or third place. This bet type had the highest chances of winning, and as a result, the payout was the lowest as well.

2. Win
To win, the chosen car needed to come in first. This bet type was less likely to be successful than a show bet, but still relatively likely compared to the others.

As such, the potential winnings were relatively low.

3. Exacta
To win, the chosen two cars needed to come in first and second place. The bettor had to also accurately predict which came first and which came second. This bet type was one of the more difficult ones, and as such potential winnings were relatively high.

4. Trifecta
Similar to an exacta, except the bettor needed to predict, in order, which cars would come first, second, and third. This bet type was the least likely to be successful, and therefore paid the highest dividends.

5. Exacta Box
Like an exacta, the bettor needed to predict the cars that would come first and second. Unlike a regular exacta, however, these could be in either order. This bet type was more likely to pay out than an exacta, but because of that, it paid less, as well.

6. Trifecta Box
Like a trifecta, except the three cars could come in any order, as long as one comes first, one second, and one third. This paid out more than an exacta box, but less than a regular trifecta.

Jack and Leonard would each buy a ticket and then show it to the other before the race began. There was no limit to the amount of mira that each could bet on one race, so long as they could afford to bet it. If either of them ran out of mira, the other would be the victor.

In all, seven races were to take place that day, with four in the first half, and three in the second. The races in the second half, the last in particular, paid the highest dividends.

Each race usually took about ten to fifteen minutes. Every car was also obliged to make at least one pit stop to charge their car's EP and change tires. Completing these actions swiftly and efficiently added another element of challenge to the competition.

Large groups and corporations sponsored the teams participating in the race, and the results had implications not just for the teams themselves, but for countless powerful figures and groups in the Republic who used the races as a proxy for their pride and reputations. The winning teams were also rewarded with vast amounts of mira.

The rules confirmed and agreed upon, Jack and Leonard purchased their first betting tickets, and the battle between them finally began.
