【정치・경제】 글램하트 정권, 지지율 68%

지난 주말 여론 조사 결과, 로이 글램하트 정권을 「강하게 지지」,「지지하는 편 」이라고 답한 시민은 총 68%로 높은 수치를 기록했다. 취임 후 2년째를 맞는 시기로서 취임 직후 74%와 비교해도 인기가 시들지 않았음을 알 수 있는 숫자다. 참고로, 록스미스 정권조차도 1기 취임 직후엔 64%였지만 취임 2년 만에 53%로 하락한 것을 고려하면, 현 정권의 어마어마한 인기를 짐작할 수 있을 것이다.

그렇다면, 현 정권이 이토록 지속적인 지지를 받는 비결은 대체 무엇일까? 여러 가지 이유를 들 수 있겠지만 역시 가장 큰 이유는 「경제 정책」과 「두꺼운 지지층」이라 할 수 있을 것이다. 경제 정책에 관해선 취임 직후엔 「제국에게서 받은 배상금을 이용한 선심 정책」에 불과하다는 비판도 보였지만, 현재의 시각으로 볼 때 대통령이 가장 중요시하는 건 공화국이 보장하는 경제 활동의 자유와 자유 시장 경제를 최대한으로 활용한 성장 정책이었다는 건 명백한 사실이다. 각종 규제 철폐와 저금리 정책에 더해 보호주의의 재검토를 통한 경쟁의 추진이 최근 2년 사이에 GDP를 1.3배로 끌어올렸다는 사실만 봐도 그 유효성을 부정할 수 없다.

또한 다양하고 두터운 지지층도 글램하트 정권의 강점이다. 당초, 이전 정권에서 적극적으로 행해지던 대륙 동부나 중동 일부 지역으로의 지원 정책 일부를 끊은 탓에, 이민자들의 지지를 얻지 못해 보수층이 지지기반이 될 것이라는 예측도 있었다. 그러나 실제로는 지원 정책은 축소되었지만 국내 거주하는 이민자들의 권리를 제약하지는 않았으며 오히려 동방계・ 중동계 기업을 경제 정책의 요체인 「경쟁」에 포함시키기도 했다. 이를 통해 이민자들의 취업 기회가 증가하고 이민자들에게 보다 많은 선택지가 주어짐으로써 동방계・중동계 주민으로부터도 안정된 지지를 얻고 있다.「“평등한 경쟁”을 가능하게 해주는 건 우리에게 도전 기회를 제공해주는 것과 마찬가지」라고 모 동방계 기업 간부가 말했는데, 이 말이 이민자들의 심정을 단적으로 대변하고 있지 않을까 싶다.

전 정권을 웃도는 안정감과 대담한 대처로 공화국을 강하게 견인하는 글램하트 정권. 배상금이 올해로 종료되는 문제 등 공화국에 남겨진 과제는 아직 많지만 과연 앞으로 공화국을 어떤 시대로 이끌어나갈 것인지, 계속해서 놀라움과 감탄을 우리 국민에게 선사하리라고 기대해본다.

The results of last weekend's straw poll are in, showing a high rating of 68% of citizens who said they 'strongly support' or 'support' the Gramheart administration. Overall, the Gramheart administration has been leading the Republic with stability far surpassing that of the previous administration and enacting bold new initiatives. Of course, there are still plenty of challenges ahead for the Republic, such as the cessation of Imperial reparations later this year. Just what future lies ahead of us, dear readers? Yesterday saw the successful end to another race on the Edith 12th District's Grand Circuit. As expected, all eyes were on Maxim Lugan, who's in his third year as the reigning champion of Z1 racing. 先週末の世論調査により、ロイ・グラムハート政権を「強く支持」「どちらかと言えば支持」すると回答した市民は合わせて６８％と、高い数値を記録した。就任後２年目を迎える時期としては、就任直後の７４％に比しても人気が衰えていない事が伺われる数字だ。
参考までに、あのロックスミス政権でさえ第一期就任直後は６４％であったが、就任２年目で５３％に下落した事からも、現政権の凄まじい人気を伺い知る事が出来るだろう。
それでは、現政権がこれほどまでに継続的な支持を集められる秘訣とは一体何だろうか。理由は多く挙げられるが、やはり最も大きなものは「経済政策」と「支持層の厚さ」であると言えるだろう。
経済政策に関しては、就任直後こそ「帝国からの賠償金を利用したバラマキ政策」に過ぎないとの批判も見られたが、今となっては大統領が真に重視するのは、共和国にて保障されている経済活動の自由と自由市場経済を最大限に活用した成長政策であった事が明らかだ。各種規制の撤廃や低金利政策に加え、保護主義の見直しによる競争の推進は、この２年間でＧＤＰを１．３倍に押し上げた事実からもその有効性を否定する事は出来ない。

また、支持層の厚さ・多様さもグラムハート政権の大きな強みである。当初、前政権で積極的に行われていた大陸東部や中東の一部地域への支援政策の一部を打ち切った事で、移民からの支持が得られず、保守層が支持基盤となるとの予測もあった。
しかし実際には、支援政策こそ縮小したものの国内に在住する移民に対して権利の制約を課す事も無く、代わりに東方系・中東系の企業を経済政策の要である「競争」に組み込んでいた。この事から移民の就労の機会が増加し、彼らにより多くの選択肢が与えられた事で、東方系・中東系の住民からも安定した支持を得られている。「“平等に競争”をさせてくれる事は、私達にとってチャレンジの機会を与えてくれたも同然」と某東方系企業の幹部は語るが、彼らの心情を端的に代弁したものと言えるのではないだろうか。
前政権を上回る安定感と、大胆な取り組みにより共和国を力強く牽引するグラムハート政権。賠償金が今年いっぱいで終了する問題など、共和国に課せられた課題はまだ多く残っているが、果たしてこの先共和国を如何なる時代に導くのか。更なる驚きと感心を我々国民にもたらしてくれる事を、期待していきたい。

　首都１２区の“グランサーキット”にて昨日行われたレースは今回も無事に盛況のうちの終了となった。
今回のレースで注目を浴びたのは、やはり去年のＺ１レースで３年連続優勝となったマクシム・ルーガン氏だろう。彼は今後の目標について記者団に「予選では５回連続の優勝を果たした、今年の本選でも優勝し、このままＺ１本選でも４回連続優勝を目指してみたい」と意欲を語った。度々浮いた話題も取りざたされるルーガン氏だが、レースの中で見せる頼もしい姿と熱意は、やはり我々の心をたぎらせてくれる。
