【특집】Z1 최종 레이스, 우승자는 맥심 선수

어제 개최된 Z1 그랑프리・1209년 봄 최종 레이스의 우승자는 이번에도 에트와스 팀 소속의 맥심 루건 선수가 되었다. 이번 레이스로 맥심 선수는 4회 연속 우승이 되어 자신의 기록을 경신하게 된다.

또한, 금년도 레이스에서 맥심 선수와 함께 우승 후보로 여겨졌던 인게르트 팀 소속의 아슬란 선수는 접전이었으나 아쉽게도 2위가 되었다. 하지만 승패가 근소한 차이로 정해졌기에 착실하게 맥심 선수와 겨룰만한 실력을 쌓아가고 있다는 것도 틀림없는 듯하다.

이번 결과에서 맥심 선수는 「다음은 5연승 기록을 노리겠다」라고 선언하고, 내년 최종 레이스에서도 아슬란 선수와 경쟁하기를 기대한다는 말을 남겼다. 그에 대해 아슬란 선수도 「이번에는 목표에 못 미쳤지만 노력한 보람을 느낄 수 있었습니다. 다음 레이스를 위해 지금부터 더 노력해 다음에야말로 우승하겠습니다」라고 선언했다. 또한 자신을 지지하는 팬과 인게르트 팀 스태프뿐만 아니라, 라이벌인 맥심 선수에 대해서도 경의를 갖고 전력으로 임하고 싶다고 이야기했다.

그리고, 에트와스 팀과 인게르트 팀 이외의 결과로는 레드 스타 팀이 저번과 똑같이 3위였으나, 올해는 레노 팀이 중소 워크스 팀을 모두 물리치고 4위가 되었다. 다른 4대 라이선시 팀에 준하는 결과를 남긴 것은 종종 중소 워크스 팀에 밀렸던 레노에 있어서는 오랜만에 저력을 보여줬다 할 수 있을 것이다.

【특집】아라미스 고등학교 학예제, 올해는 다르다?

오늘 4월 12일부터 3일간, 아라미스 고등학교에서 연례행사 “학예제”가 개최된다. 올해는 많은 새로운 시도가 있어, 예년과는 상당히 색다르게 진행될 듯하다. 본지에서는 그런 학예제를 취재해 봤다.

원래 아라미스 학예제는 창설자인 예술가 아라미스의 이념에서 학생들의 자주성과 창조성을 발휘하는 장으로 삼아 온 행사다. 따라서 준비와 운영은 모두 학생의 손으로 끝내는 것이 관례였지만── 올해는 특별히 외부에서 협력을 얻어 더 크고 다양성이 풍부한 행사가 될 예정이다. 이외에도 학생들 각자의 능력과 개성을 살려 전통과 관례에 얽매이지 않는 다양한 장식과 전시가 많다고 한다.

학생회장인 렌 브라이트 씨는 다음과 같이 말했다.

「올해 학예제는 이런 방향으로 바꿨습니다만, 초대 학장인 아라미스의 이념과도 잘 융화되었다 믿고 있습니다. 『함께 새로운 계절을』이라는 올해의 테마를 다양한 측면에서 표현한다… 그걸 위해 많은 식견과 기술을 받아들였습니다. 어떤 걸 받아들이고, 무엇과 융화하여 이 테마를 구현할지… 우리 나름대로 그걸 생각해서 다양한 시점으로 접근한 게 올해의 학예제입니다.」

렌 씨도 이렇게 말하는 이번 학예제, 그 참신함은 입장객을 맞이하는 문에서부터 실감이 난다. 교문을 꾸민 것은 이른바 아방가르드에 분류되는 예술, 그라피티 아트 양식을 담은 장식이다. 이 양식에 담긴 기술이 매우 수준 높으며, 단순히 시선을끌기 위한 작품이 아니란 것을 알 수 있다. 거기다 신입생 혼자 작업한 것이라니 더욱 놀라울 뿐이다.

올해 학예제는 이렇게 외부의 협력도 활용하고 다양성을 중시하기도 해서 개개인의 전시품도 매우 흥미롭다. 중동풍 바자나 동방풍 카페 등 다문화를 구현한 것부터 최신 기술을 구사한 전시까지 다양하다. 심지어 크로스벨로 거점을 옮긴 싱어송라이터 제스 씨와 최근 영화에도 출연한 무희인 사라 씨와 샤히나 씨도 초청받아 라이브를 개최한다고 한다.

마지막으로는 이번 학예제의 테마를 구현한, 학생회 주최 특별 스테이지도 예정되어 있어 마지막까지 즐거움이 끊이지 않을 것 같다.

【정치】토론회에서 주고받은 공화국의 사명

지난달 트라이언 몰에서 열린 정치 토론회에 대해 지금도 어느 정도 주목과 관심이 쏠리고 있다. 경제 격차나 대륙 동부 환경 문제, 기타 분쟁과 국제 범죄라는 과제를 두고 「공화국이 국제 사회에서 어떠한 책임을 해야 하는가」라는 테마로 격한 토론이 이뤄졌다.

글램하트 대통령은 공화국이 다시 「굳건한 리더십으로 국제 사회를 이끌어야 한다」 강조하며, 아래와 같이 말했다.

「왜냐하면 공화국이 유일무이한 실행력을 가졌기 때문이다. 공화국 자본의 국제 전개, 통일 통신 규격의 정비 같은 기술 면의 리드, 제국을 억제할 군사력으로 대륙 각지에 확실한 기반을 다지고 있다. 이는 공화국을 중심으로 대륙을 변혁하기 위한 기점── 아니, “초석”이 될 것이다. 그런 의미로 우리 나라에는 이 세계를 새로운 단계로 이끌 토대로서의 사명이 있다 할 수 있겠다.」

이에 대해 라이언 의원도 공화국이 명실상부 강대국이 된 이 토론회는 ICO가 주최한 것으로 국제적인 무역 불균형・사실과 대륙 각지에 남은 과제에서 공화국이 국제 사회에 있어 중심적 역할을 맡을 책임이 있다는 것에는 동의했다. 한편 공화국만이 주도하는 국제 사회의 변혁이 다양한 “단극화”를 일으킬 수 있다는 것을 지적하며, 아래와 같이 말했다.

「공화국의 우위성은 확실하지만 어디까지나 타국과의 협조, “함께 공영”하는 것을 목표로 해야 한다. 모든 분야를 우리 나라에 집중하면 특정 산업 기반이 붕괴했을 때 리스크 분산이 어렵고 경제나 기술의 발전이 우리 나라에 지나치게 의존하게 된다. 어디까지나 타국과 함께 발전해 서로에게 확실히 혜택이 있는 관계를 구축한다── 그리하여 리스크를 회피하고, 무엇보다 공화국 이념인 “다양성”을 국제 사회의 자리에서도 지키는 역할을 해낼 수 있지 않은가」

더구나 이는 단순한 이상주의가 아닌 실현 가능한 비전으로 “기술 연맹”의 케이스도 들며 산업과 기술 분야에서 그런 관계를 축으로 한 틀 구축을 추진해야 한다고 말했다.

글램하트 대통령은 라이언 의원에게 그러한 리스크는 알고 있으며 발언은 참고가 될 수 있다고 답했다. 거기다 「장래에는 세계 규모의 과제에 “미지”라 할 수 있는 사상이 끼어들 가능성도 부정할 수 없다」 「그에 맞서려면 대등・호혜가 전제인 국제 사회의 합의로는 부족하다. 언제 어느 때든 확실한 대응력을 가진 나라가 앞장서서 위기에 맞설 각오를 짊어져야 한다」며 되받아쳤다.

지금은 제무리아 대륙에서 공화국이 경제와 군사, 기술 등, 각 분야의 톱에 있는 건 사실이며, 그걸 자랑스러워하는 국민도 많다. 하지만 그게 이 나라의 방향을 어떻게 바꿔 나가느냐의 문제에 대해서는 많은 사람에게 있어 구체적인 이미지가 떠오르지 않는 것 또한 사실이다. 그런 뜻에서 이번 토론회에 대통령과 라이언 의원의 토론은 나라의 방향, 그리고 모국이 세계에서 어떻게 나아가야 하는지를 국민이 생각하게 하는 계기가 되었다 할 수 있다.

【과학】국제 환경 심포지엄, 지혜를 희망으로

같은 날 정치 토론회와 마찬가지로 ICO가 주최한 심포지엄에서는 대륙 동부의 환경 문제에 수년간 관여해 온 라토야 해밀턴 박사가 등단. 현재의 성과와 전망 등을 발표했다.

해밀턴 박사는 과거에 엘자임 공국의 공도 루도스에서 지질 조사와 수원 확보로 사막녹지화의 초석을 쌓은 실적이 있다. 이외에도 노던브리아 자치주에서 일어난 《소금 말뚝》의 여파로 불모화된 지역에서도 토양을 살리는 연구를 해왔다. 그런 노하우를 응용하여 토지 재생의 수단을 모색하면서 대륙 동부에 불모화가 확산하는 근본 원인을 해명하는 것. 그것이 수년간에 걸친 박사의 현장 연구의 목적이었다.

현재 대륙 동부 황폐화의 직접적인 요인이 칠요맥의 고갈로 식생 유지에 필수적인 환경 조건이 훼손되어 있다는 점과 그에 따른 복합적인 자연재해의 증가라는 것까지 밝혀졌다. 그러나 칠요맥의 쇠퇴의 근본적 원인은 아직 알 수 없다. 박사는 이에 대해 조사를 계속할 거라 말하면서도 「원인을 모르는 이상, 대륙 동부 같은 칠요맥 쇠퇴가 다른 지역에서 발생하지 않을 보장은 없어 남 일이 아니다」라고 호소했다.

조사와 함께 실행하고 있는 토지 재생 실험에 대해서 수원은 부족해도 칠요맥은 정상인 중동 지역과는 달리 어려움을 겪고 있는 듯하다. 하지만 노던브리아 측에서 축적된 기술을 응용하고 있어 성과가 없지는 않다고 한다. 해밀턴 박사는 마지막으로 「지혜야말로 인류의 희망이다. 인간은 지혜를 살려서 숱한 어려움을 극복하고 동포를 구해 왔다. 지혜를 짜내는 것을 포기하면 안 된다」라고 말하고 단상에서 내려왔다. ICO에 따르면 이번 연설을 통해 여러 기업과 단체가 박사의 활동에 물적・금전적인 지원과 대륙 동부에 대한 원조에 긍정적인 성명을 내기 시작했다고 한다.

【문화】고치×람 공동 제작 영화, 마침내 완성!

고치 감독과 람 감독── 공화국 영화계가 자랑하는 두 거장의 공동 제작 영화이자 공화국을 대표하는 양대 스타 주디스 랜스터와 니나 펜리의 첫 공동 출연 작품. 화제의 컬래버레이션 영화의 완성과 정식 제목의 결정이 제작위원회를 통해 발표되었다.

그 이름은 「골든 레퀴엠 ~새벽에 울어라~」. 두 회사가 총력을 기울여 만든 대작에 걸맞은, 장대하면서 드라마틱한 분위기를 자아내는 제목이다. 개봉일은 5월 중순에서 6월 초로 예정되어 있다. 완성을 기념해 주연인 두 사람의 코멘트를 소개하겠다.

「이번 공동 제작은 두 감독님의 작풍과 방향성이 달라서 처음에는 『괜찮을까』하는 염려도 있었다나 봐요. 하지만 완성하고 보니 서로의 작품에 대한 매력을 멋지게 합쳐 놀라울 정도로 잘 어울리는 작품이 되었습니다. 전적으로 두 감독님이 “캐릭터”의 매력을 잘 끌어내서 그렇겠죠. 저도 람 감독님 밑에서 처음으로 조이를 연기했지만 ──람 감독님만의 관점에서 조이를 파고들면서도 고치 감독님이 구축한 이미지와 괴리감이 없어 연기자로서도 새로운 가능성을 깨닫고, 지금까지 쌓아온 것을 실컷 발휘할 수 있었거든요. 이번 작품에서는 그러한 여주인공의 매력과 활약을 신선한 느낌으로 즐기실 수 있으실 거예요!」

「이번 작품에서는 많은 볼거리가 있지만… 저로서는 역시 미셸의 과거에 얽힌 장면에 주목해주셨으면 합니다. 기사 등에서도 주목하는 남해 외딴섬의 장엄한 유적에 있는 미셸. 자세히는 밝힐 수 없지만, 그건 그녀의 숨겨진 과거와 관련이 있는데… 그 장면을 촬영할 때, 신기하게도 지금까지 중 가장 “미셸”과 하나가 된 기분이 들었어요. 그게 그녀의 내면을 보다 파고드는 것으로 이어졌으면 좋겠네요. 그리고 그런 과거를 가진 미셸이 전혀 다른 삶을 살아온 조이와의 만남과 이별을 통해 어떻게 바뀌어 가는가… 꼭 같이 지켜봐 주셨으면 합니다.」

덧붙여 본 작품 매출액의 일부는 당초의 예정대로 끌레이유 마을의 기금에 충당될 예정이다.

[Special Report] Maxim Lugan Wins Z1 Grand Prix

Yesterday, the final race of the 1209 Z1 Grand Prix spring season concluded with Maxim Lugan of Team ETWS once again taking home the grand prize. This marks Maxim's fourth consecutive Grand Prix victory—a new record and a remarkable achievement for the champion racer.
The other favored candidate to win the finals, Aslan of Team Ingert, came in second after a very close race. Although Aslan was unable to secure a win, the slim margin of his loss has undeniably demonstrated his skill and worthiness to stand alongside Maxim as one of Z1's premier racers.
< When asked about the victory, Maxim said, 'I'll be aiming for my fifth next,' and expressed his excitement to compete against Aslan in next year's Grand Prix.
We also spoke with Aslan, who said, 'Although I fell just short of reaching my goal, I came closer than ever before. I'll be polishing my skills so that I have what it takes to bring home the win next year.' He went on to express his respect and gratitude toward not only his fans and Team Ingert's staff, but also to his rival, Maxim, promising to give the next series everything he has.
Team Red Star once again took third place, while Team Leno managed to pull ahead of their competitors to take fourth. Team Leno has historically been beaten out by smaller companies on occasion, but this year, they joined the other three big manufactures at the top, proving that they still have some gas left in the tank.

[Special Feature] Aramis Academy Festival Breaking New Ground

For three days starting today, April 12th, Aramis Academy will host its annual festival. This year's festival will feature a number of new, experimental attractions to distinguish itself from past years' efforts. The following report was written by a Tyrell Times journalist who went to see the festival in person.
As envisioned by the founder of Aramis Academy, Aramis Gainsbourg, the festival was intended to be an event in which students could demonstrate their freethinking and creativity to the world at large. In light of that goal, all preparations for and management of the festival have traditionally been left in the hands of the student body. This year, however, the requirements for participation have been relaxed so non-students could aid in the creation of a truly remarkable event with a broad range of attractions. Students have also been given permission to decorate the campus however they see fit, encouraging individuality and creativity over tradition and precedent.
When asked for comment, the president of Aramis Academy's Student Council, Renne Bright, said, 'Though this festival may be unlike those of previous years, I firmly believe our efforts are in line with the ideals of our school's founder. Our intention is to promote diversity and harmony through our theme—called, 'A New Season Together'—and to achieve that end, we've brought together the minds and talents from all over. It was thanks to this kaleidoscope of perspectives among our student body that we can put on a festival that embodies such a theme.'
Although Renne was kind enough to explain the festival's concept to us, its novelty had already spoken for itself before our reporter even passed through the academy's front gate. The school gates this year are adorned with an avant-garde style of ornamentation evocative of graffiti culture. The level of artistic skill on display is astonishing, making it abundantly clear this was no last-minute effort. The fact that it was reportedly the work of a single first-year student is nothing short of extraordinary.
Given the involvement of non-student assistants and the emphasis on diversity, it's no surprise that this year's festival exhibits are so captivating. Offerings range from the cultural, such as a Central Eastern bazaar and an Eastern-style café, to hyper-modern displays that make use of cutting-edge technology. In addition, the singer-songwriter Jess, who recently located to the Republic from Crossbell, and the dancer siblings Saara and Shaheena, who are now both established film stars, have all been invited to perform at the festival.
Finally, the Student Council will be sponsoring a special performance at the end of each day of the festival, which promises to represent the theme of the festival itself. All told, this year's festival promises to be a treat from start to finish.

[Politics] Visions of the Calvard Republic's Duty Presented at Debate

The points and issues presented during last month's political symposium at the Trion Mall continue to be discussed within the public arena. With the issues of international trade imbalance, economic inequality, environmental issues in the East, and the state of international crime weighing on everyone's minds, the ICO-organized debate addressed a hotly-contested subject: what responsibilities should the Republic bear on the international stage?
President Gramheart, in response, reaffirmed that the Republic would serve as a leading player in that very sphere.
'The Republic wields power and influence the likes of which other nations do not,' said President Gramheart. 'We are leaders in the international technological sphere, both in terms of funding and the creation of a consolidated communications standard, and our military is capable enough to equal that of the Empire, ensuring our ability to establish ourselves all across the continent. This could be the beginning—or rather, the foundation of a period of change that will secure the Republic a position as the center of the continent itself. In that sense, I believe it is our duty to ensure we have the foothold we need to pull the world along with us into a new era.'
Senator Ryan agreed that the Republic must be acknowledged as one of the continent's leading superpowers and accepted the assertion that the Republic has a responsibility to play a central role on the international stage. However, he also argued that if the Republic were to simply step in and take the reins in transforming the international community, the concentration of influence that would place upon the Republic could pose as many problems as it solved.
In Senator Ryan's words, 'Although the Republic's position of power is indisputable, I believe that we should strive to collaborate with our fellow nations for the prosperity of all. By attempting to make the Republic the center of the world in all fields, we run the risk of disaster if, for instance, the foundation for a particular industry collapses. Even setting aside the risks of over-centralization, it would result in our country relying excessively on its ability to continue to grow, both economically and technologically. If, however, we instead grow alongside our fellow nations, forging bonds of trust and mutual aid, we will both mitigate those risks and—most importantly of all—stay true to the ideal of diversity that our nations values.'
Idealistic though his vision may have sounded, Senator Ryan went on to hold up the West Zemuria Tech Union as an example of how achievable his goals were. The union's precedent, he argued, proves that a diplomatic framework based around reciprocal relationships in the fields of industry and technology is both plausible and desirable.
President Gramheart acknowledged the reality of the risks that Senator Ryan described and accepted that his proposals held merit. He also, however, stated that 'we cannot dismiss the possibility that global issues we have not even begun to consider could present themselves at any moment,' and that, 'An international community founded solely upon equality and reciprocity would be insufficient to stand up against such a crisis. There must be a nation prepared to spearhead the charge, come what may, and it is our responsibility to shoulder that burden.'
In the current day, the Republic stands at the pinnacle of Zemuria militarily, economically, technologically, and in a number of other fields. Many citizens of the Republic take pride in that fact. That dais, it is also true that very few people have a specific image in mind of how the nation must change and adapt in light of this state of affairs.
In that sense, it feels reasonable to say that the recent debate between the president and Senator Ryan poses the perfect opportunity for all of the Republic's citizens to think about what our nation should become, both in isolation and in relation to the rest of the world.

[Science] Hope and Wisdom at the International Environmental Symposium

On the same day as the political debate, Professor Latoya Hamilton took the podium at the symposium put together by the same organization to discuss the environmental issues that have plagued the Eastern half of the continent for the past several years. The professor spoke about the results of current restoration efforts as well as the outlook for the region's future.
in the past, Professor Hamilton succeeded in laying the cornerstone for the greening of desert regions in the Principality of Elsaim by conducting geological surveys in the capital and securing a consistent source of water. The professor has also conducted research on the lands in North Ambria that were rendered infertile by the Salt Pale incident, seeking a means to restore them to a usable state. The professor also hopes to apply the expertise she gained over her investigations to identity the cause of the gradually expanding infertile region in the East. For the past several years, those goals have been the chief focus of her research. According to her findings, the direct cause of the devastation in the East is the depletion of septium veins, which has destabilized the environmental conditions necessary to maintain plant life and increased the likelihood of assorted natural disasters. The root cause of the septium veins' depletion, however, remains unknown. The professor stated that investigations regarding that matter would continue, noting, 'As long as the cause of the issue remains unclear, we can't guarantee that the septium decay that has ravaged the East won't occur in other parts of the continent as well. We cannot treat this matter as someone else's problem.'
In regard to the land revitalization experiments the professor carried out over the course of her survey, she explained that, compared to the regions she worked on in the Central East, which suffered from a lack of water, but had ample septium deposits, revitalizing land in the Far East had proven much more difficult. That said, through application of the technology developed in North Ambria, she believes that there is still a very real chance of success in the long term.
At the conclusion of her talk, Professor Hamilton offered this thought: 'Within knowledge lies hope for humankind. Throughout history, it is through wisdom and understanding that we have overcome countless trials and saved countless lives. It is imperative that we never give up on wielding our knowledge to its fullest potential.' According to the ICO, multiple businesses and organizations chose to contribute material or funding to the professor's efforts and declared that they would send what relief they could to the East following her eye-opening symposium speech.

[Culture] Gotti/Lam Collaboration Film Finally Wraps!

Salvatore Gotti and Leslie Lam, two master directors beloved by film fans throughout the Republic, have been working together on a co-production starring two of the Republic's most prominent actresses, Judith Lanster and Nina Fenly, on screen together for the very first time.
At long last, the production committee behind the long-awaited collaboration film has announced both its completion and its formal title: 'Golden Requiem: Howl at the Dawn.' Both directors and their companies have poured an incredible amount of time and effort into the film, and it seems they've chosen a grand, dramatic title worthy of the picture's ambition.
The film is scheduled to be released somewhere between the middle of May and the beginning of June. To celebrate the film's completion, its starring actresses were kind enough to offer the Tyrell Times their comments regarding it.
Judith Lanster had this to say: 'When this movie was announced, I heard quite a few people thought Directors Gotti and Lam's styles would end up clashing. Now that filming's wrapped, I'm pretty confident in saying 'Golden Requiem' brings out the best in both Golden Blood and Wolves' Requiem. Like, seriously, you'll be shocked by how well they go together. The directors really know how to help us capture the charms and appeals of each of our characters. This was my first time playing Zoe under Director Lam, and I was amazed at how he was able to dig into Zoe's character without deviating from anything Director Gotti had established. He made me realize that—even after playing the character for an entire movie beforehand—I hadn't even begun to tap into Zoe's true potential. I'm positive that her daring exploits in this film will captivate fans—both new and old—like she never has before!'
Meanwhile, Nine Fenly said, 'I could talk your ear off about what makes this film so great...but, I'd like to draw attention to the scenes about Michelle's past. I know that a promotional image showing Michelle standing by a ruin on a southern island has garnered a fair bit of attention, and while I don't want to spoil any of the details, I'll say that scene is related to the most closely-guarded secret of her past. It was strange. When we filmed that scene, it almost felt like I'd become Michelle herself, more so than ever before. I'm hopeful that experience will help me portray her on a deeper level from now on, and I hope all of our fans will be excited to see how her encounter with Zoe—a woman who's lived a life far removed from that of Michelle's—will change who she is as a person going forward.'
As previously announced, a portion of the proceeds from the film is planned to be donated towards the reconstruction of Creil Village.

【特集】アラミス高等学校の学藝祭、今年は一味違う?

本日4月12日から3日間にわたって、アラミス高等学校で 毎年の恒例行事“学藝祭”が開催される。 今年は多くの新しい試みがなされ、例年とはひと味違ったも のになるようだ。本誌ではそんな学藝祭を取材してみた。 本来アラミス学藝祭は、創設者である芸術家アラミスの理念 から、学生たちの自主性と創造性を発揮する場とされてきた行 事だ。そのため準備や運営は全て学生の手で完結させるのが通 例であったが・・・・・・今年は敢えて、外部からの協力も得つつ大規 模で多様性に富んだ催しを目指しているという。 他にも各生徒が個々の能力や個性を活かし、伝統や慣例に縛 られない多様な装飾や展示が多くなされるようだ。 生徒会長のレン・ブライトさんは次のように語った。

レンブライトさん。 「今年はこうして趣向を変えてお送りする学藝祭ですが、初代 学長のアラミスの理念ともしっかり融和したものに仕上がっ たと信しています。「共に、新たな季節を』という今年のテ ーマを様々な側面から表現する・・・・・・そのために、多くの知見 や技術を取り入れました。どんなものを取り込み、何を融和 させてこのテーマを体現するか・・・・・・それを私達なりに考え、 様々な視点からアプローチしたのが今年の学藝祭なのです。」

レンさんもこのように語っている本学藝祭だが、その斬新さ は入場者を迎える門の時点で既に実感させられる。 アラミス高等学校の校門を彩るのは、いわゆるアバンギャル ドに分類される芸術、グラフィティアートの様式を取り込んだ 装飾だ。この様式を取り入れたものとしては極めてレベルが高 く、単に奇をてらっただけの作品ではない事が伺える。しかも、 手掛けたのが新一年生の一人だというから驚きを禁じ得ない。 さて、今年の学藝祭はこのように外部からの協力も活用しつ つ多様性を重んじている事もあり、個々の出展も非常に興味深 い。屋外の中東風バザールや、東方風カフェなど多文化を体現 したものから、最新の技術を駆使した展示まで盛りだくさんだ。 さらには、去年有名になったシンガーソングライターのジェ スさんも招かれ、ライブを開催するのだという。 ラストには今学藝祭のテーマを体現した、大規模な合同での 出し物もあるのだという。最後まで楽しみが尽きなさそうだ。

【政治】討論会で交わされた共和国の使命

先月トリオンモールで行われた政治討論会について、今でも 一定の注目と関心が集まっている。 この討論会はICOが主催するもので国際的な貿易不均衡・ 経済格差や大陸東部の環境問題、その他紛争や国際犯罪という課題を念頭に、「共和国が国際社会で如何なる責任を果たすべ きか」というテーマで激論が交わされた。 グラムハート大統領は改めて共和国が「揺るぎないリーダー シップで国際社会を牽引する」と強調し、以下のように続けた。 「何故なら、共和国が唯一無二の実行力を持っているからだ。 共和国資本の国際展開や統一通信規格の整備といった技術面 でのリード、帝国を抑えきれる軍事力により、大陸各地に確 かな基盤を築いている。これらは、共和国を中心に大陸を変 革していくための起点――いや、 “礎”となり得るだろう。 その意味で我が国には、この世界を新たな段階へと牽引する ための足場としての使命があると言えるだろう」 対してライアン議員も、共和国が名実ともに超大国となった 事実や大陸各地に残る課題を踏まえ、共和国が国際社会において中心的役割を担う責任がある事には同意を示した。一方、そ の上で単純な共和国主導での国際社会の変革が様々な“一極化” の問題を引き起こすのではないかと指摘し、次のように語った。 「共和国の優位性は確かなものだが、あくまで他国との協調、 “自他共栄”を目指すべきだ。あらゆる分野での我が国への 一極集中は、例えば特定の産業基盤が崩壊した際のリスク分 散が困難という問題や、そうでなくとも経済や技術の発展が 我が国に過度に依存してしまう事になる。あくまでも、他国 と共に発展し、確かな互恵関係を築けるようにする―それ により、リスクを回避すると共に、何より共和国の理念の一 つである“多様性”を国際社会の場においても守る役目を果 たせるのではないか」 その上でこれは単なる理想主義ではなく実現可能なビジョン であるとして、 “技術連盟”の実例も挙げつつ産業や技術の分野で互恵関係を軸とした枠組みの構築を推進すべきと提言した。 グラムハート大統領はライアン議員に対し、そうしたリスク については承知しているとしつつ、提言は参考になり得ると語 った。その上で「将来的には世界規模の課題に“未知”ともい える事象が介在する可能性も否定できない」「それに立ち向か うには、対等・互恵を前提にした国際社会の合意だけでは不十 分だ。いついかなる時にでも確かな即応力を持つ国が先頭に立 ち、危機に立ち向かう覚悟を背負うべきだろう」と切り返した。 今や共和国が現在のゼムリア大陸において、経済や軍事、技 術など諸分野で頂点に立っている事は事実であり、それを誇り に思う国民も多い。しかし、それがこの国の在り方をどう変え ていくのかという問題については、多くの人々にとって具体的 なイメージが沸きにくかったのもまた事実だ。 その意味で今回の討論会にて、大統領とライアン議員が交わした討論は、国の在り方、そして自分達の母国が世界の中でど うあるべきかを、国民に考えさせる契機になったと言えそうだ。

【科学国際環境シンポジウム、知恵を希望に

同日の政治討論会と同じくICO主催のシンポジウムでは、 大陸東部の環境問題に数年間携わってきたラトーヤ・ハミルト ン博士が登壇。現状の成果と今後の展望などを発表した。 ハミルトン博士は過去に、エルザイム公国の公都ルドスにて 地質調査と水源確保を成功させ、緑化の礎を築いた実績がある。 他にも、ノーザンブリア自治州において《塩の杭》の余波を受 け、不毛化に見舞われた地域でも土壌回復の研究をしてきた。 そうしたノウハウを応用して土地再生の手段を模索しつつ、 大陸東部で不毛化が広がる根本的原因を解き明かすこと。それ が数年間にわたる博士の実地研究の目的であった。 今のところ、大陸東部の荒廃の直接的要因が七耀脈の枯渇に よって、植生の維持に不可欠な環境条件が損なわれている事や、 それに伴う複合的な自然災害の増加である事まで解明されてい る。しかし、七耀脈の衰退が起きた根本的原因は未だ不明だ。 博士はこれに関し、今後も調査を続けていくとつつ「原因し が判らない以上、大陸東部のような七耀脈の衰退が他の地域で 起きない保証はない。決して対岸の火事ではない」と訴えた。 調査と並行して実行している土地再生の実験については、水 源の不足はあっても七耀脈は正常である中東地域とは異なり、 困難を極めているようだ。しかし、ノーザンブリア側で培った 技術の応用もあり、決して成果はゼロではいという。 ハミルトン博士は最後に「知恵こそ人の希望。人間は知恵を 活かして多くの困難を乗り越え、同胞を救ってきた。知恵を尽 くす事を諦めてはいけない」と述べ、壇上から降りた。

【文化】ゴッチ×ラム共同制作映画、ついに完成!

ゴッチ監督とラム監督——共和国映画界の誇る二人の巨匠の 共同制作映画にして、共和国を代表する2大スター、ジュディ スランスターとニナフェンリィの初共演作品。 話題のコラボレーション映画が完成した事と、正式タイトル が決定した事が、遂に製作委員会より発表された。 その名は「ゴールデンレクイエム~暁に吼えろ~」。 2社が総力を挙げて作り上げた大作に相応しい、壮大かつド ラマチックな雰囲気を醸し出すタイトルだ。 公開日については5月中旬から6月上旬が予定されている。 完成を記念して、主演のお二人のコメントを紹介しよう。

ジュディス・ランスター 「女優として自分の技術を常に磨いてきましたが、その意味で 本作は、特に大きな意味を持つ作品になったと思います。初 になるニナとの共演の中で、私は「ゾーイ』として『ミシェ ル』であるニナと向き合うという貴重な機会を得ました。い わゆる“憑依型”の彼女とお互いに作用しあう演技は、ある 意味不思議な体験で――私自身の演技の在り方について、新 たな可能性も見出せたんです。そんな学びを経て完成された ゾーイの活躍は、皆さんのご期待を超えられていると確信し ています!」

ニナ・フェンリィ 「新しい形で描写されるミシェルになりきり、より深い形で彼 女の本質と新たな側面を表現できました。もちろん、高名な 監督のお二人や、対比となる存在を演じるジュディス先輩の 力無くしては実現出来なかった事です。私は、皆で作り上げたこの作品が大好きで――こうして、映画としてこの世界に 形として残せた事が、この上なく誇らしいばかりです。 少々、私的な感想になってしまいましたが――皆様の心に残 り続ける映画となる事は間違いないはずです。」

なお、本作での売り上げ金の一部は当初の予定通り、クレイ ユ村への基金に充てられる予定である。
