제1회 【떠나는 토마토들】

어느 곳에 훌륭한 토마토가 되려는 노력가 토마토, 토마토니오가 있었습니다. 토마토니오는 토마토로 태어난 자신에게 긍지를 가지고, 훗날 맛있게 먹히는 것을 꿈꾸며 매일매일 노력하고 있었습니다. 농가의 할아버지는 토마토니오에게 「너는 자랑스러운 토마토다. 어서 맛있는 토마토가 돼서 모두를 기쁘게 해 다오」라고 가르쳤습니다. 토마토니오는 그 기대에 응해 동글동글 빛나는 진홍색 토마토로 자랐습니다.

그런데 그런 토마토니오를 바보 취급하는 토마토가 있었습니다. 게으름뱅이 토마토였습니다.

「필사적으로 노력하는 건 볼품 없어. 뭐든 적당히 하는 게 멋있는 거야」

토마토니오는 그런 목소리에 귀를 기울이지 않았습니다.

거기에, 토마토를 훔치러 왔을 때 만난 이후로 토마토니오와 끊임없이 말다툼하는 마른 까마귀가 있었습니다.

「언젠가 맛있는 요리가 돼서 모두를 기쁘게 해줄 거야」

라며 열렬하게 꿈을 이야기하는 토마토니오에게

「기적적으로 출하돼 봤자 안 팔리고 남거나 음식물 쓰레기가 될걸」

까마귀는 그렇게 짖궂게 말하며, 토마토니오의 꿈과 의욕을 듣고는 업신여겼습니다. 그래도 토마토니오의 의지는 전혀 꺾이지 않았습니다.

토마토니오는 누구에게 무슨 말을 들어도 의지를 굽히지 않는 강한 신념을 지니고 있었습니다.

그리고, 마침내 수확의 날이 찾아왔습니다. 이 날을 고대하던 토마토니오는 마음이 설레었습니다.

그런데 밝은 아침 하늘에 갑자기 먹구름이 끼나 싶더니, 폭풍이 불어닥쳤습니다. 태풍이 덮쳐왔습니다. 토마토들은 속수무책으로 폭풍에 휩쓸려 날아가고 말았습니다.

그런 가운데 토마토니오는 필사적으로 견뎠습니다.

「맛있게 먹히기 위해서라도 포기하지 않을 테다！」

줄기에 모든 신경을 집중시켜서, 어떻게든 버티면서, 사납게 몰아치는 하룻밤을 참고 견디는 토마토니오.

새벽이 되어, 태풍은 차츰 잦아들었습니다.

모처럼의 수확날이 엉망이 된 것을 슬퍼하면서도, 토마토니오는 재난이 지나간 것에 안도했습니다. 그런데, 몸에서 위화감이 느껴집니다. 주뼛주뼛 살펴보자―― 이럴 수가, 필사적으로 폭풍을 견뎌낸 토마토니오의 몸이, 동글동글하고 근사한 모양에서 보기 흉한 모양으로 변형되고 말았습니다.

Part 1 - Tomatoes Leaving the Nest

Once upon a time, there was a tomato named Tomatonio. He was proud to be born a tomato, and he strove to be a great tomato so he could achieve his dream of being eaten one day. Tomatonio worked hard every day to make his dream a reality, and the farmer raising him continuously gave Tomatonio words of encouragement: 'I'm so proud of you. I hope you can grow up to be a delicious tomato and make people happy.'

Tomatonio never stopped pursuing his dream, and he eventually grew to be a plump, brilliantly red tomato.

However, a lazy tomato mocked Tomatonio for his dream. 'Hah! Working hard is so not cool. It's much cooler to slack off.' Tomatonio ignored the lazy tomato's words.

There was also a skinny crow who quarreled with Tomatonio since the day they met, when the crow had come to steal tomatoes. Tomatonio would proudly share his dream, telling the crow, 'One day, I'm going to become a delicious tomato dish and make people happy,' only for the crow to mock him and reply, 'Even if you made it to the market, you'd either be left unsold on the shelves or go straight into the trash.'

Despite these words, Tomatonio was determined to accomplish his dream, and no one could break his will.

At last, harvest day arrived. Tomatonio's heart filled with anticipation, for he'd been waiting his whole life for this. Soon, however, the clear sunny sky became covered by dark, ominous clouds, and the winds began to blow. It was a typhoon! All the other tomatoes were helplessly blown away by the powerful winds. However, Tomatonio desperately clung to his vine with all his might. 'I won't give up until I achieve my dream of being eaten!'

Somehow, he managed to survive the stormy night, and when morning came, the typhoon had started to dissipate. Tomatonio was relieved to have survived, though he was quite upset at harvest day being ruined.

He then felt something strange about his body; filled with dread, he looked down. Oh, no! His once plump, brilliantly red body had been devastated after enduring the storm.

第１回　【トマト達の門出】

　ある所に立派なトマトを目指す努力家のトマト、トマトニオ
がいました。トマトニオはトマトとして生まれた自分に誇りを
持っており、将来美味しく食べてもらう事を夢見て日々努力を
重ねています。農家のおじいさんは、トマトニオに対して　　
「お前は自慢のトマトだよ。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
　早く美味しいトマトになって、皆を喜ばせておくれ」　　　
　と言い聞かせていました。トマトニオはその期待に応え、丸
々と光る深紅のトマトに育ちます。　　　　　　　　　　　　
　ところが、そんなトマトニオを馬鹿にするトマトがいました。
それは怠け者のトマトです。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
「必死に努力するのは格好悪いよ。　　　　　　　　　　　　
　何事にも本気を出さないくらいが格好良いのさ」　　　　　
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
　トマトニオはそんな声に耳を貸しません。　　　　　　　　
　さらに、トマトを盗みに来た際に出会ってからトマトニオと
口喧嘩が絶えない、痩せたカラスがいました。　　　　　　　
「いつか美味しいトマト料理にしてもらって、　　　　　　　
　皆を喜ばせるんだ」と熱く夢を語るトマトニオに対して、　
「奇跡的に出荷されたとしても、　　　　　　　　　　　　　
　せいぜい売れ残るか、生ごみ行きだろうな」　　　　　　　
　とカラスは意地悪そうに言い、トマトニオの夢や意気込みを
聞いては馬鹿にします。それでもトマトニオの意思は全く折れ
ませんでした。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
　トマトニオは、誰に何を言われても意思を曲げない強い信念
を持っていたのです。

　そして、ついに収穫の日を迎えました。この日を待ち望んで
いたトマトニオは心躍らせます。　　　　　　　　　　　　　
　ところが、晴れやかな朝空に突如暗雲が立ち込めたかと思う
と、暴風が吹き荒れました。台風が襲って来たのです。トマト
達は成す術もなく暴風に煽られ、吹き飛んでしまいました。　
　そんな中、トマトニオは必死に耐え続けます。　　　　　　
「おいしく食べてもらう為にも諦めないぞ！」　　　　　　　
　蔓に全神経を集中させて、なんとか踏ん張り、荒れ狂った一
晩を耐え忍ぶトマトニオ。明け方になると、台風は徐々に静ま

っていきます。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　
　せっかくの収穫の日が台無しになった事を悔やみながら、ト
マトニオは一難去った事に安堵しました。すると、自分の体に
違和感を感じます。恐る恐る見てみると――なんと、必死に暴
風を耐えたトマトニオの体は、丸々とした立派な形から姿を変
えて、みっともない形に変形してしまったのです。
