【정치】 세드릭 황태자 전하, 성명 발표

개전을 눈앞에 둔 어제, 황태자 전하께서 온 국민에게 성명을 발표하셨다. 이하 일부 발췌한 내용을 게재한다.

【군사】 각 기갑사단 전개 개시

각 방면에서 배치를 마친 기갑사단이 전선을 향해 전개하기 시작했다. 6개 경로로 나뉘어 칼바드 공화국과의 국경을 목표로 나아가 개전 전날에는 모든 진영이 준비될 전망이다. 또한 해군・해병 사단은 발아레스해를 항해 중으로, 공화국에 접한 테티스해로 향하고 있다.

◆각국의 협력에 감사◆

전술한 바와 같은 진군을 전제로 한 이번 《대지의 용(요르문간드)》 작전. 실현을 위해서는 타국의 협력이 불가결하여, 오스본 재상은 다시금 그 감사의 뜻을 표했다. 「서 제무리아 각국의 이해와 훌륭한 영단은 어떤 말로도 표현할 수 없다. 지난 통상회의에서 확인된 우리의 인연은 미래에도 영원히 흔들리지 않을 것이다」

【사건】 팔름 근교에 수수께끼의 빛

서덜랜트주 남부에 있는 방적마을 팔름 근교에서 하늘로 솟아오르는 불가사의한 빛기둥이 목격되었다. 빛은 잠시 후 소멸했으나 이는 본지가 알고 있는 그 어떤 군의 작전 내용에도 포함되지 않은 현상으로 연관성은 불명. 하지만 마침 같은 시기, 근처를 가르강튀아급 전함이 비행했다고 하니, 우선 위험은 없다고 판단할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

지금까지 세 명의 여성을 소개했던 이번 연재 기획도 제4회를 맞이하기에 이르렀다. 이번에 다룰 인물은 토르즈 사관학교 본교에 근무하는 베아트릭스 교관.

양호 교관인 그녀는 땡땡이를 치러 오는 학생들도 받아주는 온화하고 따스한 여성. 실은 군의로서── 심지어 후방지원과 중 최고위 계급에 해당하는 대령으로서 정규군에 재적했던 경력을 보유하고 있다. 의료대대를 이끌며 《사자생환(리바이버)》이라 불릴 정도로 이름 높은 군의였다. 「직접 전쟁터에 나갔던 건 옛날이야기고, 지금은 주로 동부 훈련 캠프에서 부상자들을 치료하고 있습니다. 이 노체도 아직은 도움이 되는 듯하네요」

양호 교관과 전직 군의로서 사람들에게 온 힘을 다하는 모습은 현역 군인들의 좋은 모범이 될 것임에 틀림없다.

[Politics] Prince Cedric Addresses his Subjects
Prince Cedric made a speech addressed to all citizens of the Empire to discuss the impending war. The key parts of his formal address are outlined below.

'Dear fellow Erebonians, allow me to thank you for your continued cooperation. Thanks to you, we are well-prepared for the commencement of military operations on September 1st. As proof, we've received word that the entire force we planned to have stationed at Tangram Fortress, which will be on the front line, has already arrived at their posts.
I wish I could go into battle, myself, to avenge my gravely injured father and murdered brother, but my position at the Imperial Court prevents me from doing so. I entrust the task of punishing the ignoble nation of Calvard to our brave soldiers.
I ask that you all to allow me to watch over you from afar as you achieve victory for this most righteous of causes!'

[Military Affairs] The Armored Divisions Move Out
All of the armored divisions have now begun readying to advance on Calvard via six different routes, with all preparations to be finished the day before the war starts. Our naval forces are currently heading from the Balares Sea to the Thetis Sea; from there, they will launch their attack on Calvard.

◆We Have Our Allies to Thank◆
Devising a military operation with so many moving parts has only been possible through cooperation with our allies. Chancellor Osborne has expressed his deep gratitude to all who contributed to Operation Jormungandr.
'I could never thank our allies enough. May the bonds that connect all our nations in western Zemuria last until the world meets its end.'

[Incident] Mysterious Light near Parm
A mysterious beam of light was sighted near Parm, the Spinning Town. The pillar of light vanished as unexpectedly as it appeared. As no such occurrence was documented in the military's plans, whether or not it is related to the war is completely unknown.
However, as a Gargantua-class battleship was in the area at the time, the phenomenon is believed to have been harmless.

[Column] Ladies Who Labor - Episode 4
The fourth amazing lady whose inspiring story we'll highlight is 베아트릭스, who works as an instructor at Thors Military Academy. She has a calm and warm personality. In addition to being a medical instructor, she's also the school nurse, who students often come to visit when their coursework proves too stressful. One would be hard-pressed to guess that she used to be a field medic with the rank of Colonel--the highest such designation for a rearguard--in the Imperial Army. Her skill even earned her the nickname, 'the Reviver.'

'I'm too old now to be scampering around battlefields, but I can at least make myself useful tending to the injured at training camps,' she said.
베아트릭스, who continues to help wounded warriors while raising the next generation of soldiers, stands as an inspiration to field medics and fighters alike.

【軍事】各機甲師団展開開始
各方面で配備を終えた機甲師団が、戦線へ向けて展開を始め
ている。６つの経路に分かれてカルバード共和国との国境を目
指して進行し、開戦前日にはすべての陣営が整う見込み。また
海軍・海兵師団はバルアレス海を航行中で、共和国に接するテ
ティス海へ向かっている。

◆各国の協力に感謝◆
前述のような進軍を前提としていた、この度の《大地の竜(8Rヨルムンガンド)》
作戦。実現のためには他国の協力が不可欠で、オズボーン宰相
は改めてその感謝の意を表された。
「西ゼムリア諸国のご理解と素晴らしい英断は、どれだけ言葉
を尽くしても表せるものではない。先の通商会議において確か
められた絆は、未来永劫揺らがぬものだろう」

【事件】パルム近郊に、謎の光
サザーラント州南部にある紡績町パルムの近郊で、空に立ち
昇る不思議な光柱が目撃された。光はしばらくして消滅したが、
この事象は本誌が知り得ている軍の作戦内容にも含まれていな
いことで、関連は不明。だがちょうど同じ頃に付近をガルガン
チュア級戦艦が飛行していたこともあり、ひとまず危険は無い
と判断できそうだ。

【コラム】ワーキングレディの履歴書第４回
これまで３人の女性をご紹介してきた当連載企画も、第４回
を迎えるに至った。今回取り上げるのは、トールズ士官学院本
校に務めるベアトリクス教官。

養護教官である彼女は、サボりに来る生徒も受け止めてくれ
る穏やかで温かな女性。しかし実は軍医として──しかも後方
支援科の中で最高位の階級に当たる大佐として、正規軍に在籍
していた経歴をもつ。医療大隊を率い《死人返し(リヴァイヴァー)》と呼ばれる
ほどの名軍医なのだ。「自ら戦場を駆け回ったのは昔の話。今
は主に東部の訓練キャンプを訪ねて、負傷した方々の手当てを
しています。この老体も、まだ少しはお役に立てそうですから」
養護教官と元軍医、二足の草鞋で人々に尽くす姿は、現役軍
人たちの良き模範となるに違いない。
