Giliath Osborne (ギリアス・オズボーン) also known as the Blood and Iron Chancellor (鉄血宰相(てっけつさいしょう)), is a major political figure in Erebonia. He plays a significant role in the 영웅전설 섬의 궤적 I, II, III, and IV.

"The Blood and Iron Chancellor", he is the representative of the Erebonian Imperial Government. A former military politician, he rose to prominence about 10 years ago and has implemented various reforms with his outstanding execution skills, such as laying a railway network across the Empire. While he has earned intense resentment and opposition by annexing neighboring small countries and autonomous regions as well as obstructing the interests of the nobles, he enjoys overwhelming support from the citizens of Erebonia.

The representative of the Imperial government, also known as the "Blood and Iron Chancellor." Since his appointment ten years ago, he has worked to reform the Erebonian aristocracy and construct a railroad network across the Empire. His efforts have earned him many enemies, such as the noble classes and resistance organizations from the Empire's annexed territories.

The head of the Imperial government, he is known across Zemuria as the Blood and Iron Chancellor. Ever since he rose to his current position, he pushed hard to modernize the empire, build its railway network, and annex neighboring territories. His policies as a member of the Reformist faction gained him enthusiastic support from commoners. However, those same policies put him at odds with the nobility, feeding into a schism in the empire. During one of his speeches, he was shot through the heart in broad daylight, signaling the Noble Alliance's forces to begin their occupation of Heimdallr, and directly leading to the civil war. However, Osborne somehow survived the incident and reappeared at the end of the civil war, using the chaos and confusion to steal Ouroboros' Phantasmal Blaze Plan for himself. It was at this point that he also revealed to a stunned Rean that he was his biological father.

Infamously known as the "Blood and Iron Chancellor," Osborne is a commoner who rose from humble origins to become chancellor of the most powerful country on the continent. Since taking office, he has pushed for modernization across the Empire, both socially, and in terms of its infrastructure, expanding its vast railway network as he ruthlessly annexes surrounding countries. At the end of the civil war, he revealed himself to Rean as his birth father and presented him to the nation as the "Ashen Chevalier," using his own son as a pawn of the government. He then began rapidly expanding the military and annexed the independent states of Crossbell and North Ambria in quick succession. At the same time, he used Ouroboros behind the scenes to trigger the Great Twilight. Now, after years of planning, the pieces are in place and the end of all things looms over the world, wrought by his hands...

Appearance

Giliath is a middle-aged man of robust physical build, with emerald green eyes, medium-length brown hair with grey highlights, and a beard.

His suit is defined by a dark grey-purple overcoat reaching down to his ankles with bronze-gold color thick hem and patterns, a long red cloth over the right shoulder to the robe’s bottom base while strapped around tightly by a brown belt. He has two chains connected on the left side of the belt going around the backside, and wears two medals of promotion on the left side of the chest. Underneath the coat is a white collar shirt tuck followed by a violet scarf tucked around his neck, wears violet pants, and grey-brown shoes.

Personality

Osborne is an intimidating figure of overwhelming influence who is ambitious on seizing power through political means. He displays a particular iron-willed presence when it comes to motivating the public during his strong and bold speeches. He can be seen as a pleasant man on the surface, speaking with a half-heart motion for those of his service or when meeting new and old acquaintances but behind his generous façade is his ruthless aggressiveness attempting to claim all regardless of any bloodshed.

Osborne is willing to do anything to achieve his goals, regardless of who or what stands in his way; or of any karma from the result of his actions; thus making enemies who are angered from becoming his 'sacrifices'. Nevertheless as the head of the Imperial government, his seriousness is ever followed by his heavy threats before anyone can get in his way.

Underneath the surface, he cares for his son and the country, willing to disguise himself as the ultimate villain to bring salvation to his country and thus the entire world.

Trivia

• In 영웅전설 섬의 궤적 IV, Osborne states his Sword of the End would have been unable to slaughter the Holy Beast of Earth. His sword was created by the Goddess and two creations of the Goddess are unable to fell each other.
• The name "Giliath" comes from Tolkien's Sindarin language and means "Many Stars" ("Osgiliath" means "City of Many Stars"), while his last name Osborne is from Norse Asbjorn, meaning "Sacred Bear".
