Hamel (ハーメル村(むら)), also known as Forgotten Village (忘れ去られし村), Ghost Town (ハーメル廃村), and Hemel in the localisation of the PSP version of 영웅전설 하늘의 궤적 FC, was a village located in the south of Erebonia, 120 selge near the border of Liberl.

Hamel was initially a small happy and lively village that had occasional contact with Ravennue Village until it was completely destroyed and its inhabitants indiscriminately slaughtered by a group of jaeger dropouts. The attack on the village was then used as a excuse for Erebonia to invade Liberl and became the start for the Hundred Days War.

Only three of the villagers had escaped and survived: Joshua Astray, Leonhardt and Johan. However, the latter disappeared and was adopted with a new name and little memory of the incident, leading the former two to believe they were the only survivors.

Following the Hundred Days War, both the Erebonian and Liberlian governments decided to keep the incident under wraps. The village was erased from the maps and records and access to the ruins was strictly prohibited, with any would-be visitors requiring permission from Marquis Hyarms and the general in charge of Dreknor Fortress, Sutherland's highest-ranked civilian and military official respectively, along with a promise not to reveal the truth to the public, as it would cause a general panic. The official reason was that the road to the village had been destroyed in a landslide, and it was never rebuilt, although Joshua and Leonhardt did return to create a grave for Karin.

Hamel is briefly seen when Joshua, accompanied by the Capua Family, places flowers on Karin's grave, before returning to Liberl. Following Leonhardt's death, Joshua again returned to Hamel, this time accompanied by Estelle Bright, laying the Kernviter at Karin's grave as well. It subsequently also served as an impromptu grave for Leonhardt.

Background

Following an attack during the branch academy's first field exercise, Rean Schwarzer was tasked by the government to stop Ouroboros's plans in the region. Assisted by some of his former classmates, suspecting that the society was based in Hamel. Upon getting permission from Marquis Hyarms and Olaf Craig, they arrived at Hamel together with Agate Crosner and found Duvalie and Shirley Orlando paying their respects at Leonhardt and Karin's grave.

After paying their respects, they agreed to take their fight outside of the village. Following the battle, the new Class VII was made aware of Hamel, and Ash Carbide remembered his past.

영웅전설 섬의 궤적 IV

Background

After the events in Heimdallr, Ash escaped the Weissland Army with a Hector and wandered to Hamel. New Class VII and Randy Orlando followed his trail and were able to convince him to return to Eryn with them, but Gilbert Stein and his enhanced jaegers also found them. Ash and the rest were able to defeat them, but Zephyr's commanders appeared as well to try to recruit Ash into the corps. He refused, and a battle ensued during which Juna and Ash's Soldats were able to crack Zector's weapon, forcing Zephyr to back off.

On August 27, S.1206, the sanctuary located inside Draco Shrine is transported to Hamel and shielded by a barrier projected from the Gargantua. The next day, Class VII disables the Gargantua and heads to Hamel to have the second Rivalry against Zector inside the sanctuary.

On September 1, Estelle, Joshua, Renne, Agate and Tita were about to visit Hamel before Operation Shining Steel when the road became corrupted by one of the Seventy-Seven Devils, manifested due to the tensions of the Great Twilight reaching the peak. Joined by Rean and Ash, they were able to purge the devil at Hamel's memorial, after which they heard Leonhardt's voice thanking them.

Trivia

• The name of the village is called "HARMEL" on the road sign at the entrance to the village in 영웅전설 섬의 궤적 III.
• The name is likely an allusion to the Pied Piper of Hameln, a German legend. In this tale, the town’s people hire a rat catcher with an enchanting magic pipe, but refuse to pay him for his work. The rat catcher then punishes them by luring the town’s children away with the same magic pipe he used to lead the rats out of town. (When Joshua, who is called “the lost child of Hamel”, tells Estelle the story of his past, he refers to Georg Weissmann as a “magician” who took control of his life as the price for curing his mental damage.) The real-life town is known as Hamelin in English, and is located in the present-day German state of Lower Saxony.
