Ray (レイ) is an inhabitant of the City of Zeiss.

Personality

Unlike his hard-working colleague 티에리, Ray is a bit of a slacker who has no reservations against making up the numbers in his reports or embellishing the facts to gain funding. He also prefers to milk Terry for ideas on what subjects to research next rather than do some brainstorming himself and the success he has is based more on luck than on hard work. In his eyes, it doesn't matter whether it's luck or skill that leads to success, as long as the success is achieved.

Ray is a researcher working at the Central Factory who's usually found in the lab on the 4th floor of the building together with his colleague Terry.

His research for this term is about studying greenhouses, but since it involves mostly around "watching grass grow", Ray is driving off his boredom by breeding genetically engineered tomatoes and, occasionally, tricking people into taking a bite out of them and watching their reaction. He succesfully pulls this off with Terry, who has difficulty getting the taste out of his mouth afterwards, but it fails on Tita, due to Terry having warned her in advance, much to Ray's disappointment.

While his research was supposed to focus on greenhouses, he ends up writing his thesis about his tomatoes instead. His attempts to market his invention are unsuccessful at first due to their extremely bitter taste and he even muses that if one of the people who attacked the Central Factory had taken a bite, he would have been able to market it as a weapon. After Estelle and Joshua hand over one of his tomatoes to the owner of the Forgel Bar, who's been looking for recipes to expand his limited menu, Ray starts getting orders for his product, much to Terry's bewilderment.

Ray briefly appears in 달의 문 1 "오벌 기어 개발 계획", where he says he is done with greenhouse experiments and plans to create an archaism modeled after 티타 러셀.

By the time of 영웅전설 제로의 궤적, Ray's acerbic tomatoes become popular enough outside Liberl to be available in the general stores of 크로스벨. Additionally, 헨리 맥도웰 is mentioned to have been a fan of bitter tomatoes for a long time.

Monsters known as Acerbic Tomartians can be encountered in 영웅전설 제로의 궤적 and later games. They are supposedly acerbic tomatoes that have turned into monsters due to being hated.

Ray's acerbic tomatoes are not available in the general stores of 칼바드, but one of the stores of 이디스 sells Acerbic Tomato Cookies. It is mentioned that acerbic tomatoes are not as popular in Calvard as they are in Liberl.

After being called by 에스머레이 아체트, he flies to 바젤 to assist her research on biotic limbs, specifically to develop a painkiller to use with them. They determine that a suitable painkiller could be created using Zemuria Moss, and send a request to 아크라이드 해결사 사무소 to collect some from a mine in the city.
