The Imperial Defense Force (衛士隊) is a newly established division within the Imperial Army of Erebonia, replacing the Imperial Guardsmen (近衛兵) of the Provincial Armies, tasked with the protection the Imperial Family and the Valflame Palace.
Background
The Imperial Defense Force was established during S.1205. The group consists of some of the best soldiers in the Imperial Army.

In S.1206, members of the Imperial Defense Force fail to stop Ash Carbide before reaching Emperor Eugent Reise Arnor III's chamber. Their failure results in an attempted assassination of the emperor.
Following the start of the Great Twilight, a curse spread throughout Erebonia to promote strife and conflict. The Imperial Defense Force, who were loyal to the Emperor and Erebonia, were swiftly affected by the curse, promoting Erebonia's military might and purging any traitors they found.

Despite the intentions behind the Great War, some members of the Imperial Defense Force refused to accept the peace treaty, seeing it as an insult to Erebonia's military might and believed it necessary to restart the war. What was left of the Imperial Defense Force in Crossbell City continued to rule it as if it was a province of Erebonia, despite being condemned by both the Erebonian government and former Governor General Rufus Albarea. On February 14, S.1207, these remnants were attacked by Crossbell's police/military forces and the Special Support Section to liberate the city from their rule. Despite their best efforts, they ultimately surrendered when their leaders were apprehended by the SSS and sent to Aurochs Fort for their crimes.
Some of these members ended up joining the Ebon Defense Force, a military organization led by the Supreme Leader. Thanks to the training some of them received from Garcia Rossi, some members managed to regain their senses and helped overthrow the Ebon Defense Force.
