At the age of 17, he enrolls at the Thors Branch Campus and is placed into Class VIII: Combat Tactics under Randy Orlando. He joins the Chess Club with Kurt Vander and spends much of his time discussing strategies to make himself more appealing to the female students, feeling down when it appears others have all the luck, including Kurt.
Sidney is especially down on himself when he feels he has no qualities that make him unique or stand out, especially in comparison to Maya who also uses a sniper rifle, yet is far more skilled. After Rean does some investigation to boosts Sidney's morale, he is shown that although he is worse on average, he excels at hitting moving targets which is more difficult. It is remarked that Sidney still needs to practise much more than he is doing however. Sidney's motivation is restored after this. He claims to have an encyclopedic knowledge of 'swimsuit babes'.
Sidney is encountered again in Milsante after the Great Twilight. He was worried about his family back in Grenville but is gathering information. After hearing that Rean's sister was being kept in Leeves, he and Tatiana figured they should do something about it and try to get into the town.
Sidney takes a ling to Ada Grant and tries to get her ARCUS number when exchanging contact info aboard the Courageous II, which she declines. Sidney is in charge of guns on the ship, but does spend some time on the surface with Kairi supporting the main campus. Ada and Sidney are ambushed by monsters, and Sidney offers to keep them back while Ada escapes but Rean manages to intervene and save both. Ada accuses Sidney of thinking she is weak because she is a girl, but Sidney states it should be her that lives instead of him. Ada thinks him some kind of crazy feminist but appreciates the gesture and says she is impressed, even if Sidney isn't popular. Sidney confirms Ada and Fritz are not together, which gives him hope for the future.
Later in Mishelam, Ada and Sidney end up on the Ferris wheel together and by his own account, they really 'clicked' and he saw her smile for the first time after some awkwardness and talking. Ada said she would think about it after Sidney asked to do it again in the future.
Sidney and Kurt play Ada and Fritz in a chess competition at the branch campus festival. Sidney loses to Ada, but she compliments him on how much he has improved and agrees to consider meeting with him for another match. Sidney celebrates this achievement and starts yelling about how he is suddenly winning at life, enough so that most of the campus appears to hear him.
Sidney also celebrates Randy returning successfully from the Crossbell operation and is present at Freddy's offering for the Imperial Wedding dining.
