Background
Most of the mining and rich septium resources Crossbell was originally known for came from Mainz. The main mine in the Mainz area that was used during this historical period in Crossbell is now referred to as the Old Mine. Though that mine was closed up, a new mine took its place with an entrance directly inside Mainz itself.
Despite Mainz's history of being an important resource for Crossbell, recent changes in Crossbell's business priorities has caused international attention to shift to trade and financing economics instead. This has led to a decline in Mainz's importance regarding Crossbell's national income.
Because Crossbell itself no longer invests in the mining industry, foreign nations now buy their septium directly from Mainz.

Background
The Special Support Section visit Mainz as the last location to be attacked by mysterious canine monsters, with the Crossbell Guardian Force being directed away from the area by their commander after deeming their protection to be a waste. Revache is then seen extorting Mayor Bickson for protection in exchange for the rights to the septium mined by the village. Lloyd Bannings deduces that Revache has been testing war hounds for use in their war against Heiyue, and they're taking the chance to secure the septium trade through extortion as a bonus, theorizing that they'll attack the same day again to force the Mayor's hand before he can ask for help from the Bracer Guild.
He is proven correct as hounds attack two miners, intervening in time to drive them back to their masters, and following them to proceed to the arrest. However, they end up outnumbered and only saved by the appearance of Zeit and his wolf pack.
Later, Mayor Bickson asks the SSS to track down Gantz, one of the miners who has gone missing for several days. Gantz is found living the high life after earning massive winnings at the casino, but later having to be arrested after he finds his match in Lechter Arundel. Bickson and the SSS take him to his room at the hotel, where he falls unconscious, and they find blue pills on his person that seemingly gave him a boost to gamble.

Background
After the SSS returns to action, Mayor Bickson calls them to investigate mysterious phenomenons occurring in the Old Mine, Mainz's first mine. However, the entry was trapped, collapsing when the SSS enter. The miners spend some time clearing the entrance, with Randy Orlando and Zeit rescuing the group from a powerful monster that appeared deep in the caves.
Afterwards, the mayor gives them the key to the mine and information about the Red Constellation's appearance and purchase of septium crystals.

Following the Red Constellation's sudden disappearance, they reappear in the Mainz region, attacking a CGF unit and taking control of the town and the access to it. The CGF are unable to liberate the town on their own, but Randy decides to go alone without the rest of the SSS knowing and infiltrate their backlines to deal with his family. By the time the SSS catches up to him he's defeated several jaegers, but is stopped by Shirley Orlando damaging his rifle. Once the group are able to force her to back off, the rest of the jaegers abandon the town, but Randy notes that the force occupying Mainz was far too small compared with the information available as they notice Crossbell City has come under attack.
After the declaration of independence, a resistance composed of former CGF members is established in Mainz, with Mireille taking charge. The SSS tries to make contact with them, but is stopped by Gareth. Claiming the resistance will fall to his unit, he is caught by surprise by Randy, with the rest of his unit being forced out by the resistance and Zeit's wolf pack.
Later, following Pater-Mater's battle with Aion Type-γ, Estelle, Joshua, Renne and Joerg Rosenberg can be found resting in the inn.

Background
Mainz is once again the base of resistance against Supreme Leader Rufus Albarea's forces. The CGF and police clash with the Black Guard at several locations along the area. Later, the civilians, led by Harold Hayworth join the fray and help to push the Black Guard back.
