Crossbell Cathedral (クロスベル大聖堂(たいせいどう)) is the seat of the Archbishop of Crossbell for the Septian Church, currently held by Archbishop Eralda.

Background

In addition to the cathedral itself, the facilities include a parsonage and a graveyard. Some consider the cathedral as even greater than the one of the High Seat of the Septian Church in Arteria.

Archbishop Eralda is known as an intimidating man, even among members of the Church. He has an outspoken dislike for the Congregation for the Sacraments and the Gralsritter, and does not tolerate their presence within the borders of Crossbell. His dislike stems from how the Church handled the punishment of former Bishop Owen, who was assassinated by Kevin Graham for hiring mercenaries to attack Aster House.

Archbishop Eralda is also known for major contributions in the field of medicine. St. Ursula Medical College, in particular Doctor Lago, who studied under him before deciding to become a doctor instead, still works with prescriptions once formulated by him.

Background

In S.1201, Guy Bannings was buried in the graveyard behind the cathedral, with his brother Lloyd Bannings and his fiancée Cecile Neues attending the funeral with many others before the former left Crossbell for three years. Lloyd can visit Guy's grave after his return to Crossbell to form the Special Support Section, the division born of Guy's ideals.

After taking temporary custody of KeA, the SSS takes her to the cathedral on Joshua Bright's suggestion, where Sister Marble, Lloyd and Elie's former teacher, agrees to use Thaumaturgy to try and restore KeA's memories, having learned on the instruction of Archbishop Eralda to avoid the intervention of the Gralsritter. However, the spell produces no results, and the sister suggests trying modern medicine and asking for the Neurology department of St. Ursula Medical College for help.

Later, the SSS can help collect flowers for Old Man Quint to offer to the graves, after which they visit three particular ones: the grave of Saya MacLaine, wife of Arios MacLaine; a grave whose inscription is too deteriorated to read; and the grave of Guy. Quint reveals Guy was a friend of his and wanted to see if Lloyd and the SSS were growing as Guy's successors.

• Rare Herb Retrieval: Doctor Lago of St. Ursula asks for a rare herb from Crossbell Cathedral.
• The Many Famous Views of Crossbell: The cliff at the eastern end of the graveyard is one of the locations to be photographed.
• KeA: On the advice of Joshua Bright, the SSS take KeA to Crossbell Cathedral to help restore her memories.
• Sunday School Guest Lecturer: Sister Marble asks Lloyd to give a class.
• Flowers for Fallen Friends: The gravekeeper of the cathedral requests flowers from all around Crossbell.

Background

Following the return of the SSS after the arrests of Ernest Reis and Hartmann at the D∴G cult's lodge in Altair, they meet Ries Argent on the way to pick up KeA. Ries asks Elie, who she knows from her travels to Arteria, to keep her Gralsritter identity a secret as she's undercover.

After cryptids start appearing in Crossbell, the SSS finds a mysterious flower growing in all the locations where they appeared. They try to ask the Archbishop for identification, but he refuses to cooperate after realizing what it is. However, Ries agrees to help them in secret, identifying the flower as Pleroma Grass from the Apocrypha, the same as the main ingredient of Gnosis mentioned in the cult's terminals.

After the declaration of independence, Wazy Hemisphere reveals his identity as a Dominion to the archbishop, having been distracted by Ries' transfer. Archbishop Eralda realizes that the Gralsritter may have been able to prevent the situation from escalating had they not been forced to monitor the situation behind his back. While this is not enough to change his overall opinion of the Gralsritter, the realization that he may have unwittingly aided the Azure-Zero Project by obstructing them does make him more willing to tolerate their presence in Crossbell, especially after intervention of the Gralsritter to respond to the appearance of the Azure Tree is approved and issued by the Pope of the Septian Church.
