The city of Rolent (地方都市(ちほうとし)ロレント), also known as the Provincial City, is the regional capital of the Rolent region in Liberl.

Background

Rolent is specialised in agriculture and septium mining. The Malga Mine to its north is rich in a specific variety of septium known as esmelas.

Its most recognisable structure is its central clock tower, which was destroyed during the Hundred Days War by Erebonia in S.1192, but dutifully rebuilt by concerned Rolent citizens shortly thereafter.

Bracer family Cassius, Estelle and Joshua Bright live in a country house at the southwest outskirts of this city.

Industries

Despite being relatively isolated compared to the other cities, Rolent nevertheless contributes to Liberl's economy in several ways.

Agriculture, Horticulture and Dairy

The export product the Rolent region is probably most famous for among the average Liberlian is the high-quality produce from the Perzel Farm. The fresh milk and delicious vegetables Franz Perzel and his family produce are not merely extremely popular in the nearby city, but ever since the introduction of airliners in Liberl, their wares have also been shipped to other cities in the country and several high class establishments, such as the exclusive Anterose Restaurant in Bose and the royal kitchen preparing meals for the Queen and her family and guests pride themselves on using vegetables from Rolent in the meals they serve.

Septium Export

Located near a mountainous area that's rich with septium, Rolent's biggest export product may be the crystals of Esmelas (wind-affiliated Septium) that are extracted from the ground in the Malga Mine north from the City of Rolent. The mine has been an important part of Rolent's economy ever since the Orbal Revolution turned Septium from mere jewellery into an essential part of technology that became part of everyday life and new lodes are still discovered every now and then. The Malga Mine remains profitable enough to employ a significant staff of workers.

Timber

Less prominent than fresh vegetables or Septium, but no less important for everyday life is Rolent's lumber industry. Particularly the trees growing in Mistwald Forest south of the City of Rolent are known for producing high-quality lumber and woodcutters from Rolent have been cutting down trees and planting new ones for generations.

Government & Politics

Like all of Liberl's larger cities aside from the City of Grancel, Rolent is governed by a mayor who oversees the daily going-ons in the city and who, as a member of the Royal Assembly, visits the capital on an annual basis to discuss the affairs of the country together with the Queen, the other mayors and other figures of prominence in Liberlian society.

The current mayor of Rolent is Mayor Klaus who lives in a residence on the east side of town together with his wife and maid. Much more than the other major cities in Liberl Kingdom, Rolent is a tight-knit community and pretty much all the citizens know the mayor personally. In fact, Klaus was elected mayor because of the townfolk's respect for and fondness of him as a person.

Since the City of Rolent is relatively isolated compared to the other major cities, running the city isn't quite as hectic as keeping on top of a city such as Bose, so Mayor Klaus still has time to spend on his gardening hobby and speak with citizens regularly.

Bracer Guild

Rolent has its own Bracer Guild branch since their expansion after the Hundred Days War.The Rolent branch is unusually important despite the city's small size due to Cassius Bright being affiliated to it. As such, most jobs that require his attention go through Aina, the receptionist. Other bracers present are Ridge and Scherazard, the latter being one of Cassius' pupils, as well as the new apprentices Estelle and Joshua.

Background

Estelle lost her mother Lena during the Hundred Days War, when the Clock Tower collapsed on top of them. Lena protected Estelle with her body, and died of her injuries before Cassius could return, which prompted him to leave the army and become a bracer after the war ended, as well as using a staff instead of a sword.

Ten years later, Estelle and Joshua take the test to become junior bracers in the sewers of Rolent with Scherazard supervising them. They pass the test, and for their first task as bracers they rescue residents Luke and Pat from Esmelas Tower. They take on part of Cassius' work after he has to leave on urgent bracer business, during which they meet Josette at the mayor's residence when delivering a septium crystal for him.

After completing the last job, the mayor informs them that his residence has been burglarized, and are sent to investigate with Scherazard. They deduce Josette was one of the culprits, and follow her tracks to Mistwald where they're able to recover the stolen crystal, but the gang of sky bandits manages to escape on an airship. They return the crystal to the mayor, but they find out that the Linde, the airship Cassius was supposed to have left on, has disappeared on its way to Bose. This prompts the three of them to leave Rolent to investigate, but not before receiving a recommendation from Aina for their work.

• Training: Retrieval: Estelle and Joshua's final test before becoming junior bracers takes place in the Rolent Sewers.
• Mayor Klaus' Request: After retrieving the crystal for the mayor, they deliver it directly to him, meeting Josette there.
• Mayoral Theft: Estelle and Joshua investigate the theft of the crystal from the mayor's house.
• Lost Kitten: A cat is lost in the streets of Rolent.

Background

Estelle returns to Rolent in a hurry after Joshua's disappearance. Kevin Graham, who she met in the airship, accompanies her to her home, but unbeknownst to her he stops by the Rolent Bracer Guild to warn Cassius and Scherazard of her whereabouts.

During her investigations into Ouroboros' movements across Liberl, Estelle and her group are forced to land in Rolent while on their way to Bose due to a sudden thick fog enveloping the region making flying impossible. To make matters worse, some residents of the city have fallen into deep comas with no explanation. After investigating the matter, they reach the conclusion that another of Ouroboros' Enforcers is behind the coma cases.

After returning from Perzel Farm, they hear from fellow bracer Ridge about a bell toll coming from Mistwald, which they interpret as a challenge from the Enforcer. They are able to stop the source of the fog, which also wakes the victims of comas, and resume their flight to Bose.

During the country-wide Orbal Shutdown Phenomenon Rolent is one of the cities where Estelle and Joshua have to visit the Bracer Guild and restore communications with the help of the Zero Field Generators. Aina notifies them that Ridge still hasn't returned from the Malga Mine, and asks them to check up on him.
