Alster (辺境の町アルスター), also known as the Remote Town, and Ulster in Falcom's romanisation, is a remote village in the north of Erebonia.
Background
Alster is located at the edge of the Osgiliath Basin, a place considered cursed by the villagers. Alster is known for being the hometown of Prince Olivert Reise Arnor and the location of the Steinrose Distillery. The villagers share the task of maintaining the vineyard at the Old Lamare Road west of the town.[1] It is also the hometown of Sandy.
Olivert used to live with his mother Ariel Lenheim and Mueller Vander, who arrived to act as his bodyguard from a young age. In S.1189, jaegers hired by a minor noble looking to garner favor with the Four Great Houses raided their residence. While Mueller was able to keep Olivert safe, Ariel died as a result, and the prince moved to the Valflame Palace afterwards.

Ring of Judgment
On their search for Renne, Estelle and Joshua travel to Erebonia to assist their Bracer Guilds, placed under restrictions. They travel to Alster with Toval Randonneur after reports that the Jesters' remnants have been spotted nearby, with other bracers going missing as well.
In Alster they meet Tilia and hear about a nearby fortress being the likely base of the Jesters, where they meet Kai, who is under the influence of the titular Ring of Judgment, an artifact.
영웅전설 섬의 궤적 II, Memoir: "The Remote Town of Alster"
Class VII heads to Alster on the Courageous by request from Olivert, the only mission they undertake in western Erebonia. After completing the request, meeting the villagers and taking care of a nearby Cryptid, a group of jaegers begins a raid on the town. Class VII rescues the villagers with help from Toval, but the jaegers' stolen Panzer Soldat forces Altina Orion to reveal herself by protecting Tilia. With Altina's help, Valimar disables the Soldat, putting an end to the raid.

Background
New Class VII travels to Alster in order to search for the singularity in Lamare, following the trail of other Thors Branch Campus students. They find that due to the Lenheim residence burning down from a lightning strike and Olivert's apparent death, several villagers, including the mayor, have fallen to the Erebonian Curse influence and have been drafted for the war. They also find a note from Musse Egret telling them to meet in the Osgiliath Basin, which happens to be the location of the singularity, marked by black Pleroma Grass.

Locations
Alster is a small town that is built around a plaza in its centre.

Inn - Sunny Spot is ran by Lanson[JP 1] and his wife Gilda.[JP 2] They are the parents of Thors Branch Campus student, Sandy. The 'Lenheim Risotto', based on the recipe of Ariel Lenheim, is still served at the Sunny Spot.[2]
Gasco's Store is ran by Gasco,[JP 3] who runs the Arms & Orbal Factory. His daughter Enya[JP 4] attends the General Goods section of the store. Kai has been working at the Orbal Factory for years. When Gasco receives a conscription letter, Kai watches the factory in Gasco's absence.

Steinrose Distillery was originally ran by the father of the brothers Mirio[JP 5] and Jarnac[JP 6] and their sisters Blanc[JP 7] and Yuni,[JP 8] who attend the distillery in their father's absence. Their father was drafted for the Operation Jormungand before 10 August, S.1206.[1] Jarnac receives his conscription notification soon after his father. The black cat Pearl[JP 9] can be found near the entrance of Steinrose Distillery. It is believed in Alster that the barrel a black cat sits on will produce delicious liquor.[1]
Alster Chapel is attended by Father Nogaro[JP 10] and Sister Rochelle.[JP 11]
Kai & Tilia's House is inhabited by Kai and Tilia.
Alster - Home is inhabited by Old Man Boeh[JP 12] and Old Lady Alma.[JP 13] Their grandson, Lott,[JP 14] attends the sheep in his parents' absence. Lott's parents are working in Aragon, meaning his grandparents are looking after him. Old Man Boeh finds Lott an embarrassment for the Erebonian man and is very strict him, resulting in Lott regularly crying on Old Lady Alma's lap.[3]

Site of Lenheim Family's residence is where the house Ariel Lenheim lived in and Olivier Lenheim grew up in. According to the monument at the site the house was struck by lightning and burnt down in May S.1206.[1]
Others
Mayor Mathim[JP 15] can be found strolling through town. Melanie [JP 16] walks in circles on the plaza. Auch [JP 17] works as a farmer. Auch still remembers the cries of Ariel and Olivier Lenheim during the attack in S.1189 and feels remorse over the fact that he was unable to make it in time.[3]
Old Man Gilvan, together with his dog Gabriel, visits the town.
In the manga there is also an abandoned fortress outside the town's perimeters. In the drama CD there exist an underground passage that leads from a mountain range to the entrance to the town. Neither of these places can be found nor visited in 영웅전설 섬의 궤적 IV.
