Thors Military Academy Branch Campus (トールズ士官学校(しかんがっこう)・リーヴス第(だい)II分校(ぶんこう)), shortened as the branch campus or Thors Branch Campus, is a branch of Thors Military Academy located in the suburb of Leeves, Erebonia.

Background

The branch campus was established by Prince Olivert Reise Arnor after the Erebonian Civil War as his last act as director of Thors Military Academy before resigning in protest for the reformation of the main campus into a more restricted military-focused academy. The campus was then used by the government as a place to send and control problematic students (and faculty), such as those coming from annexed territories Crossbell, North Ambria and Jurai, foreign exchange students, underperformers or people connected to the Noble Alliance.

The principal of the Branch Campus is Aurelia Le Guin, former commander of the Noble Alliance forces, supported by Railway Military Police Major Michael Irving.

Background

Rean Schwarzer arrives after graduating from the main campus to become an instructor, together with Towa Herschel and Randy Orlando, with Aurelia Le Guin as principal and Major Irving as chief instructor. At the school's welcoming ceremony, Principal Le Guin declares the school a "trash bin," noting that both its faculty and students are those that have been deemed to be too troublesome or with backgrounds too problematic for the main campus, which is welcoming Crown Prince Cedric Reise Arnor. Despite this, she expresses the desire that the students will embody the ideals of Thors and warns that any who lack the resolve to reforge themselves in the fires of adversity should leave.

The students are quickly challenged by both the school's rigorous curriculum and their field exercises, in which they find themselves ordered by the government to contend with dangerous enemies such as Ouroboros. Additionally, a rivalry quickly develops between Class VII and Class I of the Main Campus, spurred by a visit from Prince Cedric. Cedric expresses disdain towards the Branch Campus, offering both Rean and Kurt Vander a chance to transfer to the Main Campus. After they decline, Cedric later challenges Rean and his students to a Panzer Soldat battle along with his classmates Ada and Fritz, only to lose.

The rivalry deepens when the branch campus students learn that the main campus has also begun to take on their own field exercises led by Cedric, taking down an Ouroboros Archaism factory in North Ambria while they were in Ordis, gaining fame for the prince while the branch campus was snubbed. This extends to the midterm exams, where the scores of both campuses are ranked together.

Following the exams, the students of both campuses conduct field exercises in the capital city of Heimdallr upon reports of Calvardian agents having infiltrated the city. After a Hercules unit chased by Class VII ends up captured by Cedric and Neithardt's group, they begin to cooperate, with a massive joint operation between the campuses to apprehend the rest of the agents. Once the crisis is resolved, Emperor Eugent Reise Arnor III holds a ceremony honoring their efforts, with Rean accepting on behalf of the new Class VII and Cedric accepting for Class I.

However, the party they were invited to comes to a shocking end when Ash Carbide of Class VII, under the influence of the Erebonian Curse, shoots Emperor Eugent in the heart using a gun stolen from one of the agents. Heimdallr is placed under martial law, Ash Carbide is declared a suspected Calvardian agent and imprisoned, and his actions are used as a pretext to declare war on Calvard.

The field camp of the Branch Campus is placed under guard by the Imperial Defense Force. Despite this, the new Class VII escapes with the aid of Emma Millstein's magic to reunite with the old Class VII to discuss the situation at the Heimdallr Cathedral. Their discussion is interrupted by the appearance of the Gral of Erebos, prophesied by the Black Records and, with it, the appearance of cryptids and Magic Knights throughout the city. Fighting their way past, the combined Class VII rushes to the Gral, with the rest of the branch campus as reinforcements, where they are shocked to discover that the main campus have joined Chancellor Giliath Osborne's plan, with Cedric being an Ironblood.

Meanwhile, Aurelia begins the plan Musse Egret set in motion, coordinating with Wallace Bardias, Vita Clotilde and the Weissland Army to rescue Ash and secure the Pantagruel to escape.

영웅전설 섬의 궤적 IV

Background

Following the events at the Gral, the students and staff of the Branch Campus end up scattered as Roselia Millstein teleports the groups away. With Musse Egret using Vita Clotilde's magic to reunite with the Weissland Army, Juna, Kurt and Altina are teleported together with Randy Orlando and the old Class VII to Eryn where they recover for two weeks.

After training with Randy to return to form, Class VII sets out to find singularities in the whole of Erebonia to scan for the Black Workshop, where Rean, Valimar, Celine and Millium has been taken to. During their search, new Class VII meet other branch campus students, who have been investigating the state of the empire on their own, collaborating with them to find the singularities, along with Ash in Hamel and Musse, who they convince to return with them to Eryn after fighting the Main Campus, under command of Michael Irving and Prince Cedric now. The major informs them that in their absence, the main campus is now occupying the Leeves facilities.

Once Rean is rescued, Class VII sets out to liberate the rest of the campus members, first Towa at Ordis, and then Tita Russell and Princess Alfin in Saint-Arkh, before heading to Leeves to free Tio Plato and Elise Schwarzer. After meeting with Randy on the way, the new Class VII defeats the main campus students and substitute instructors Makarov and Mary Altheim in Zauber Soldats, which have been introduced in the curriculum since then. Heading to Einhel Keep, they complete Professor Schmidt's most difficult test so far, defeating Major Michael and the elite main campus students. The main campus agrees to support Class VII and the Radiant Wings, save for Cedric, who has joined the Ironbloods in full capacity.

Curriculum

The Branch Campus curriculum is design to have parity with the main campus, and as such shares the same classes with only minor differences. This includes using the Academic Point System to determine an overall grade. Taught subjects include mathematics, Erebonian history, Military Science, Art, Orbal computing, Political Economics and Combat Studies. Furthermore, Panzer Soldat training was added to both campuses in line with developments in military technology.

At times, the entire school, as opposed to singular classes, would be deployed on field studies using a specialised armoured train, The Derfflinger. The students were expecting to be able to set up the camp and eventually operate the train itself, all the while helping provide assistance to various Erebonian regions.

Unlike the main campus which elected to disband student clubs, principal Aurelia Le Guin was keen on their implementation, believing them to be of merit. A variety of extra curricular activities are also made available through clubs. The known examples include:

Facilities

Main Building

The Main Building (本校舎) is across the entrance gate and consists of two floors with a clocktower built on top of its roof. Within the building are all sorts of rooms, including rooms for classes for the Music and Arts Club. Class VII, Class VIII and Class IX have classes here.

First Floor

Upon entering the Main Building, one finds the Principal's Office, Faculty Lounge, Tactical Conference Room on the right, and the Library, Infirmary and Storehouse on the left. In the centre of the first floor is the stairs to the second floor. Following the hallway leads outside to the courtyard behind the main building. The Library holds older issues of the Imperial Chronicle. The chessboard in the Principal's Office reveals Principal Aurelia Le Guin's interest in chess.

Second Floor

On the second the Arts Club and classroom for Class IX can be found on the east side, the classrooms for Class VII and Class VIII can be located in the west wing. Taking the stairs up from the second floor leads to the roof, from where students can enjoy the woodlands scenery of Leeves, enjoy the flower beds or leisurely read a magazine on one of the benches.

Clubhouse

The Clubhouse (クラブハウス) is situated behind the Main Building. On the second floor of the clubhouse is a salon for students to wind down, with billiards, sofas and even a vending machine. Many students use the clubhouse to relax after class. In the basement are facilities for students to hone their skills. There's a five-lane swimming pool similar to the Thors Military Academy, a shooting range and a training area for melee weapons.

Hangar

The Hangar (格納庫), situated behind the Academy Field. On the first floor, the Divine Knight Valimar and Panzer Soldats are stored. It is also the home of Tita Russell's orbment factory whenever she is free from class. Professor G. Schmidt's study is located on the second floor, from where Tita regularly hears jeers.

Other

• Dining Hall (食堂): The Dining Hall is situated on behind the Main Building. Apart from dinner, the Dining Hall is also the on-campus store for restorative items and magazines. Gina of the Barneys Inn in Leeves is responsible for running the Dining Hall. Although she works in the inn to attract customers with her looks, her culinary skills are said to be authentic.
• Academy Field (グラウンド): The Academy Field is a vast, asphalted area from where students load freight onto the Derfflinger. Panzer Soldat training is also held on the Academy Field.
• Platform (ホーム): Directly next to the Academy Field is a vast platform for the Derfflinger. Panzer Soldats, weapons and other necessities can easily be carried onboard. The platform is long enough for all six cars of the Derfflinger.
• Vegetable Garden (菜園): Outdoors area located south of the Main Building. One of the few areas where students can experience the woodlands of Leeves, making it a valuable space. With flower beds, benches and a pond, the garden serves as a peaceful area. On the east side of the garden are cultivated lands and sheds for animals. Helping students with agriculture here reap certain benefits.
• Cooperative Store (購買部): A building between the Clubhouse and the Academy Field that will be locked until enough Branch Campus Quests have been completed, and Academy Rank has reached a certain level.

Trivia

• The Branch Campus building seems to be modelled after the prestigious Japanese university, Toudai, located in Bunkyo, Tokyo. It is one of Japan's seven national universities.
• From a gameplay perspective, the Einhel Keep serves the same purpose as the Old Schoolhouse from the first two Cold Steel games, as a recurring dungeon on school grounds generally visited once per chapter to provide training for Class VII.
