Knowles is an inhabitant of the town of Zeiss.
He's the son of the owner of the local general store and lives above the store together with his parents and younger brother.
While his brother Didi is mostly hanging out in the family's living quarters upstairs whenever there's no Sunday School, Knowles himself is usually found in the store or just outside of it, helping his father with the inventory display. At least, that's what he tells people when they ask what he's doing.
The truth is that Knowles' position as the person in charge of the merchandise displays is largely a self-appointed one and rather than a strong dedication to his father's business, Knowles' motivation is based on the fact that he has an obsessive-compulsive personality and is fascinated by order, neatness and symmetry. Likewise, a room where things aren't in order or aren't tidied up sufficiently such as the town's chapel where Sunday School takes place can drive him absolutely nuts. While Elwyn has asked his son to limit himself to rearranging the shelves only once a day, Knowles just can't help himself when a customer checks out an item and then doesn't put it back in exactly the place it used to be.
Later on, Knowles is shown trying to introduce his younger brother to the wonders of meticulous inventory placement, but since Didi doesn't share his brother's quirks, he quickly gets bored and walks off, wondering to himself how in the world his brother can enjoy that kind of thing.
Knowles seems to have the habit of forgetting to do his Sunday School homework, most likely due to him being so easily distracted by irregularities in his surroundings.
Relations
Knowles is the son of Elwyn and Ada and the older brother of Didi.
He attends Sunday School together with Yuriel, Didi, Vince, Muriel and (very rarely) Tita.
