Synopsis
Lechter Arundel arrives at the Karel Imperial Villa where two on duty guards taunt him. He meets Klaudia von Auslese and Lucy Seiland for a reunion. They talk about the state of affairs and Kloe indicates she will soon be heading back to Liberl. Lechter reveals he knows about Lucy's activities which are supposed to be a secret and they also discuss the activities of Leo E. Lorentz. Lechter gets a call calling him back to work and he heads off. Lucy and Kloe mark that there is something off about him.
Earlier that day, Lechter was in a meeting with senior members of the Intelligence Division. They discuss the reparations that the Empire has to pay following the Great War and Hubert puts forward his plan for a new re-structured and flexible organization. Director Simon states Lechter might as well not be here and the others taunt him, intending to make him pay for his role in the war. Lechter is sent away. Outside, Hubert and Lechter talk about the state of the division. Simon appears and sends Lechter on his way to Crossbell for busywork that will keep him out of the way.
On the train, Lechter catches up with Millium Orion and her activities following her return to life. She is on the way to Thors Military Academy to say hello to her teachers. They discuss Altina Orion who had now left the Intelligence Division but retains an emergency contact line. The signal for Trista arrives and Millium departs, but not before Lechter gives her a letter to pass on to the academy staff. Lechter then dozes off and remembers the words and actions of Giliath Osborne and why he decided to follow him.
When the train approaches Celdic, Lechter gives word to show that he knows he is being tailed. Hubert and his agents reveal themselves and train guns on Lechter, intending to assassinate him. Hubert has also arranged for an airship to blast the side of the train, killing Lechter. Lechter reveals he knew they were acting on behalf of the Central Intelligence Department. The gunship blasts at the train but the attack is mysteriously blocked.
Millium reveals herself, having blocked the attack with Airgetlam. The letter Lechter gave her was a fake. Hubert tries to get his gun out on Lechter but Lechter reveals his own reformed intelligence Division is active and they pounce on the rogue agents and subdue them. Lechter plays the situation to his advantages and makes it look like he set the whole thing up. Reins takes Hubert into custody and states he is doing this for his home, Liberl, too.
Lechter reports the mission to Simon who congratulates him on finding a mole. Lechter says it was a good debut for the reformed division but Simon cautions him that the old guard are still around.
Later on, Lechter contacts Klein as a CID car tries to escape Heimdallr. Lechter collects his thoughts and Lucy and Kloe find him. Lechter thinks himself lucky to know the pair and has fond memories of Jenis Royal Academy. They all make a resolution to drag Lechter make to Liberl for a full reunion with everyone.
