Private Bergan is a soldier serving in the Royal Army.
He's stationed in Grancel and has to guard the gate to the Erebonian embasssy in the eastern section of the royal city. In many ways, Bergan is similar to his colleague Private Tact, who is guarding the Calvardian embassy in the same area of the city. Both are guarding the embassy of a nation neighboring Liberl, both are yearning to take part in the Martial Arts Competition, but aren't allowed away from their guard duty and both are among the few soldiers who aren't replaced by special ops as the Birthday Celebration gets closer. Both also have frequent interaction with one of the people who fight alongside Estelle and Joshua in the tournament, but while Private Tact admires Zin and is on friendly terms with him, Private Bergan considers Olivier a royal headache who should be kept under lock and key.
Bergan considers most people at the Erebonian embassy upstanding people, particularly Mueller, the recently appointed military officer at the embassy, but Olivier's considered an exception. During his outings into the city, it's not uncommon for Olivier to cause trouble or get people angry at his antics and since people aren't allowed in the embassy without permission, Bergan's the one who usually has to receive the complaints about Olivier's behavior. This has caused him to have even less tolerance of Olivier than most other people do and his interaction with Olivier usually consists of warnings not to do anything that warrants formal apologies or admonishments about his past antics.
After the final match of the tournament, Mueller has Olivier confined to the embassy and Bergan is ordered not to let him leave the building. Despite this precaution, Olivier somehow manages to escape and make it to the Bracer Guild, where he joins Scherazard in busting into the Erbe Royal Villa, leaving Private Bergan to wonder how on earth Olivier manages to get out all the time.
