Godfrey is a person met in the town of Grancel.
He's a fighting competition enthusiast who's attending the Martial Arts Competition and during the days of the tournament he's usually found in front of the Grand Arena in the royal city's eastern block. While the fights themselves are already exhilirating, Godfrey feels that picking a team and rooting for them. Of course, it's most enjoyable if that team also ends up winning and that's where Godfrey's problem lies.
He's rooting for the border garrison during the primaries, though they end up losing. The next day he decides that since he was a bit of a punk himself in his younger days, he'll root for the Ravens during the first day of the finals who lose to Estelle and her team. When he roots for Kurt's team and that team is defeated too, he comes to the conclusion that any team he roots for is destined to lose and decides to start betting on the team he wants to lose next time. He ends up cheering for Estelle's and Zin's team, which ends up winning, though assuming he went with his reverse-psychology approach this time, the team he was actually rooting for still lost.
While seemingly rooting for Zin's team, Godfrey meets Miele, who's genuinely rooting for the Bracer team and the two of them decide to have a drink at the Sunnybell Inn to celebrate the end of the tournament and the victory of their favored team. If Estelle talks to Godfrey while he's at the bar, he'll congratulate him and his team and tells them he's peggede them for a shoe-in from the very beginning despite the fact he was rooting for the opposition the entire time.
Godfrey and Miele go a little overboard with the drinking though and while Miele wakes up the next morning not remembering whom he had a drink with the other day, Godfrey wakes up in an unfamiliar place in circumstances he's too embarrassed to recount. Since he doesn't have much to do during the days after the tournament except loiter about a bit, he becomes very aware of the increased security in the royal city since the soldiers patrolling the city watch him loiter and frequently stop and question him.
