Chief Watch Officer Ashton is a soldier serving in the Royal Army.
He's stationed at Verte Bridge checkpoint separating the cities Rolent and Bose and in charge of the soldiers residing there.
Ashton is a grizzled veteran who has been a soldier since the Hundred Days War and who used to be stationed in the main unit of the Royal Army in Grancel, where people felt he showed a lot of promise as a capable leader, before being put in charge of the Verte Bridge checkpoint not too long ago. Unlike many of the inexperienced soldiers manning the checkpoint, Ashton takes his job very seriously as he realizes that just because things are peaceful right now doesn't mean they'll remain that way forever.
He keeps on top of his soldiers in an attempt to keep them sharp, always making sure the newest recruits are placed on his side of the bridge so he can keep an eye on them, and when he feels that discipline has deteriorated too much, he organizes a practice drill with Estelle and Joshua playing the role of the enemy. Being soundly defeated by the bracers and chided by their commanding officer, the soldiers promise to make a better effort.
Being from Rolent himself, Ashton knows Estelle and Joshua by face and when they speak to him, he apologizes to them for the trouble they had to go through to bring his son Luke back from the Esmelas Tower. Due to this familiarity, he's also quick to issue them a gate pass when they travel through the checkpoint, though he warns them that it may be wise to hide their occupation when dealing with the military personnel at Haken Gate, though he's too professional to tell them outright that his superior, General Morgan, dislikes bracers.
When he's not disciplining his soldiers, the strict Ashton is disciplining his occasionally troublesome son.

Chief Watch Officer Ashton is a superior of Private Harold, Private Scott, Private Antose, Private Lacos and Watch Officer Dyne.
He's also the son of Maggy and the father of Luke.
