Morris Dalmore's story.

Background

He was born to the prestigious Dalmore Family, a line of reputable nobles who had been the lords of Ruan for generations.

Prior to S.1202, Dalmore had traveled to Calvard where he wound up in massive debt after making poor financial deals. To help repay the debt, he used the city's funds. Some time later, Dalmore and his assistant, Gilbert Stein, encountered Captain Lorence Belgar and his special ops soldiers and fell under their influence.

In his altered state, Dalmore devised a plan to recover the money he'd lost. By building a set of luxury villas along the western coast and selling them to wealthy figures, e.g. Dunan von Auslese, he could repay his debts. However, there was one hinge in his plan: Mercia Orphanage. Matron Theresa refused to sell her land. And so in retaliation, Dalmore plotted the arson of her orphanage.

Morris Dalmore is first introduced with Gilbert Stein, helping Joshua, Estelle, and Kloe after they were harassed by the Raven Gang. After the Ravens leave, Dalmore apologizes for their actions, to Kloe in particular. He speaks highly of the Bracer Guild and offers help to Estelle and Joshua, should the Ravens cause further trouble.

After the Mercia Orphanage is burned down, Dalmore is seen entering the room wherein Matron Theresa is recovering. He extends his sincerest apologies about what happened and asks if everyone is okay. Theresa says she's fine, but doesn't know what to do now, as they have no home. Dalmore offers to shelter both Theresa and the children in one of his villas in Grancel, which shocks both Kloe and Theresa. Theresa is unsure about relocating, but Dalmore allows her time to consider his offer.

Dalmore later appears at Jenis Royal Academy's Festival as one of its annual patrons, where he meets with Dean Collins. He then watches the school play and contributes money to help rebuild the orphanage.

During the battle at Varenne Lighthouse, Gilbert reveals Morris was the orchestrator of everything; he wanted to construct villas along the western shore, including one on the site of Mercia Orphanage. Estelle's group promptly arrest Gilbert and his crew, locking them up in the Manoria Village windmill, where they are guarded by Bracer Carna until the authorities arrive.

Back in Ruan, Dalmore treats with a drunken Dunan von Auslese, wining and dining the duke into buying one of the mayor's properties, when Estelle's group bust into the dining hall. They confront Dalmore, condemning his actions. An emotional Kloe demands an explanation. A winded Nial Burns then enters, revealing Dalmore's financial problems as his motive. Realizing he's been discovered, Dalmore opens a secret passage at the back wall, from which two monstrous pets come out. Dalmore orders them to attack Estelle's party, who then proceeds to thrash them.

After the battle, Morris declares "it is not over" and produces an artifact from his cloak. When activated, it freezes time in the room, including Estelle and her group. Morris brags that the artifact he holds is called the 'Chronos Rod', a Dalmore family heirloom. Estelle struggles against its power, verbally lashing out at Dalmore. Hearing her insults, the mayor is angry and goes to kill her: until an enraged Joshua warns him to back away from Estelle with a look of murderous intent.

Intimidated, Dalmore decides Joshua is the bigger threat, moving to kill him instead. Estelle screams, and suddenly the Black Orbment in Estelle's pocket activates, releasing a light that destroys Dalmore's artifact, enabling Joshua and the others to break free. Seeing his artifact broken, Dalmore escapes through the secret passageway to his personal yacht, fleeing by sea. Estelle and co. pursue him, but then the Arseille appears to knock out Dalmore and his boat. He is captured at sea by First Lieutenant Julia Schwarz and the airship's crew.

Following the ordeal, First Lieutenant Schwarz reveals Dalmore and his goons were arrested and that, when Dalmore regained consciousness, he was completely unaware of his crimes. She clarifies he would nonetheless be punished accordingly.

Dalmore is last seen in a prison cell at Leiston Fortress.

After Dalmore's arrest, he was deposed of his position as Mayor, with his assets being temporarily requisitioned by the Liberlian military.

Later, during Ruan's Mayoral Election Campaign, a soldier tells Estelle the Royal Army plans to repurpose Dalmore's mansion into a new City Hall after the election.

In a former house for sale, Estelle finds a new shop. The clerk welcomes them, but recognizes Estelle and hides his face. Estelle asks about the store, but when the clerk stutters, Joshua states 'it has been a long time'. Estelle asks if he knows him, to which Joshua states they both do. She asks if he is with the society. Joshua reveals he is Morris Dalmore, former mayor of Ruan, who is supposed to be imprisoned at Leiston Fortress. Dalmore confirms, but explains he has the proper permissions. Estelle scoffs at his claim, and states he deserved what came to after his burning of the orphanage. Joshua calms Estelle down and suggests they listen first, then decide whether he's worth trusting. Reluctantly, she agrees. Dalmore explains he was a victim of the case as well; he was under someone else's control, leaving him only vague memories of his crimes. Dalmore also claims he had to pay out a substantial bail, draining what little remained of his family fortune. Joshua understands and explains to a clueless Estelle what bail means. Estelle remains hesitant, but Joshua says it's not impossible for Morris to be here, admitting there were extenuating circumstances. When asked why he returned, Dalmore explains he intends to rebuild his family by starting a new business: a Sepith Trading Store. Joshua commends the idea, and asks where he gets the sepith from. Dalmore vaguely claims he has channels, which again makes Estelle question his reliability.
