Shard Skills (シャードスキル); a part of the Xipha, are a mechanic introduced in 영웅전설 여의 궤적.

Description

By equipping different quartz on different lines, similar to earlier games in the series, the player can stack elemental attributes and gain shard skills, unique effects which can activate in and out of combat. It is important to note that element restricted slots gain double the amount of attributes from their respective quartz.

There are 22 Shard skills for each type of line (Weapon, Shield, Drive and Extra) aside from the Extra line having 30 for a total of 96 Shard skills.

Activation Chance

The activation chance of Shard Skills can be manipulated, however how to do this depends almost entirely on the type of Shard Skill.

S-Boost Chance

This is the most common type of skill. S-Boost, on top of giving bonuses from the equipped Holo Core, also increases the activation chance of many Shard Skills. The chance increases drastically when under S-Boost, and if the user boosts fully, then the chance will boost to 100% and the skills will be guaranteed to trigger. This is the case for the Elemental Impact Skills for example or the Elemental Arts Boost skills.

Stun Chance

The chances of these skills activating increases if the enemies are stunned. If the player transitions from Action Battle to Command Battle against stunned enemies, all of the player's starter skills will activate guaranteed for example.

SCLM Chance

The chance of these skills activating increases when the user is under an SCLM Link. Covering Shield on the shield line, for example, has its activation chance double for the partner in an SCLM chain.

Fixed Chance

Some skills have a fixed chance of activating. Crisis Force on the extra line has a 50% chance of activation which cannot be modified for example. Other skills like Fatal Lance on the Weapon Line have a 100% chance of activating at all times.

Always Active

Certain skills are always active regardless of what actually happening at the current moment and act more like passives or quartz effects. This is notably the case of Treasure Hunter and Hawkeye whose effects were put on quartz in previous games in the series.

Lines

Weapon Line

The Weapon line pertains to shard skills used offensively by craft attackers for either dealing additional damage or aiding in using crafts.

Shield Line

The Shield line pertains to shard skills used for defensive purposes such as reducing incoming damage and preventing status effects.

Drive Line

The Drive line pertains to shard skills used for either increasing the damage of arts or aiding in attacking with arts.

Extra Line

The Extra line consists of Shard skills used for various additional utilities, from buffs at the start of combat all the way to increasing the range of SCLM links.
