Keraunos, also referred to as the divine lightning (天の電) is the name given to the superweapon at the heart of the Retributive Tower.
Background
Keraunos is a colossal optical superweapon that draws on orbal energy from the Septium veins. It is part of the Retributive Tower facility and was constructed alongside it as part of Project Babel. Supreme Leader Rufus Albarea describes the weapon as one that can extinguish all evil from the world with the greatest power ever seen, a fitting weapon for the end of the world.
The beam is capable of being directed at nearly any target on the Zemurian continent through the use of Combat Shell satellites positioned at a high altitude which can redirect the beam towards the desired point. Keraunos is only able to be as accurate over long distances as it is thanks to the advanced technology and predictive abilities of Elysium. It has a speculated charge time of half a day.
The blast from Keraunos' initial firing was powerful enough to wipe out Juno Naval Fortress in one shot, including most of the underlying land mass. A smaller blast is launched at the Arseille II, but is able to be repulsed by the combined strength of five of Erebonia's greatest warriors, their weapons enchanted by the Hexen Clan. Firing the weapon on any scale briefly drains the facility's ability to shield itself. The next planned target of the weapon was Baratier Air Base in central Calvard. Following his defeat, Ishmelga Rean set the weapon to continuously fire, slaving its targeting system to the collective human subconscious and directing it to fire at the greatest concentration of hatred until either the septium veins powering it were completely drained or all life was extinguished from the continent.
Keraunos is ultimately destroyed when the genuine Rufus Albarea's broadcast draws all the world's hostility towards the Retributive Tower itself. The process of firing the weapon in this manner causes the weapon and facility to overheat, making it dangerous to remain prior to the blast which ultimately destroys the entire facility.
