Ray is an inhabitant of the town of Zeiss.
He's the researcher working at the Central Factory who's usually found in the lab on the 4th floor of the building together with his colleague Terry.
His research for this term is about studying greenhouses, but since it involves mostly around "watching grass grow", Ray is driving off his boredom by breeding genetically engineered tomatoes and, occasionally, tricking people into taking a bite out of them and watching their reaction. He succesfully pulls this off with Terry, who has difficulty getting the taste out of his mouth afterwards, but it fails on Tita, due to Terry having warned her in advance, much to Ray's disappointment.
While his research was supposed to focus on greenhouses, he ends up writing his thesis about his tomatoes instead. His attempts to market his invention are unsuccessful at first due to their horrible taste and he even muses that if one of the people who attacked the Central Factory had taken a bite, he would have been able to market it as a weapon. After Estelle and Joshua hand over one of his tomatoes to the owner of the Forgel Bar, who's been looking for recipes to expand his limited menu, Ray starts getting orders for his product, much to Terry's bewilderment.
Unlike the hard-working and dedicated Terry, Ray is a bit of a slacker who has no reservations against making up the numbers in his reports or embellishing the facts to gain funding. He also prefers to milk Terry for ideas on what subjects to research next rather than do some brainstorming himself and the success he has is based more on luck than on hard work. But in his eyes, it doesn't matter whether it's luck or skill that leads to success, as long as the success is achieved.
