Stain, a NPC met in Zeiss

Mister Stain is an inhabitant of the town of Zeiss.

He's the owner of Stain Arms & Guards located in the center of the city block, although he resides in a house just a little north of where he set up his business where he lives together with his wife and son. Like many townspeople who lived in Zeiss before the Orbal Revolution, Stain's family were clockmakers, specialized in making watches. Stain himself used to be a technician at Zeiss Central Factory, but he enjoyed what little contact with actual customers he had so much that he ended up starting a weapon business specializing in orbal firearms, so he could interact with customers more. Ironically, during Estelle's and Joshua's stay in Zeiss, Stain isn't at his shop very often.

Nevertheless, Stain greatly values his customers' best interests and his way of thinking frequently puts him at odds with Elkan, the salesman he's employing to run the shop's day-by-day business, whenever the two are discussing the shop's stock policies.

Stain's policy is to never stock any model that's too new and hasn't proven its worth yet and he values reliability above all else. Elkan, while he gets the gist of Stain's argument, feels that this policy is too restrictive and takes the fun out of the job since it forces to shop to only carry mainstream models while engineers from the factory frequently develop experimental models with much greater energy output. Stain doesn't really blame Elkan for his view, rather he's upset that engineers frequently develop weapons while only looking at the technical specs without taking its usability or reliability into account and hopes that his son, whom he knows has a deep respect for scientists, will eventually become an engineer with more "vision". In Stain's eyes, reliability is more important than anything else since customers stake their lives on their weaponry.

After Stain and Elkan get into another argument about this subject after the orbal engineer Karl stopped by the shop and convinced Elkan to start stocking his new test-model firearm with great stopping power, despite not all issues having been worked out of it yet. Fed up, Stain plans to look Karl up one of the upcoming days and have a word with him, but he has to postpone this due to the attack on Central Factory taking place. When he finally meets Karl, much to his surprise, Karl tells him he finally understand where Stain is coming from (due to Karl having an extended talk with a relatively layman on the subject). While not completely understanding Karl's change of heart, Stain is nevertheless happy to hear about it and hopes that Elkan will come around to his point of view too someday.

Stain is the husband of Elise and the father of Vince.

He's also the employer of Elkan.
