Chief Watch Officer Pace is a soldier serving in the Royal Army.
He's in charge of the Wolf Fort checkpoint that lies on the border between Liberl and the Calvard Republic and heads the border patrol stationed there.
Despite its name, Wolf Fort is hardly a heavily fortified building, unlike the Haken Gate on the Erebonian border. The reason for that is that Liberl's relation with the Calvard Republic is a lot more relaxed than the sometimes strained ties with the Empire and while the Haken Gate garrison is actively guarding the border and keeping a sharp eye out for signs of Erebonian hostility, the border garrison at Wolf Fort is much more concerned about not making waves and keeping relations with the neighboring country relaxed. This notion is at the center of CWO Pace's policies.
Pace's policies are probably the most lenient of any commanding officer in the army. His laissez-faire attitude certainly doesn't give the impression of strict military discipline as Pace tolerates practices such as sleeping on the job or skipping duty, much to the chagrin of his direct subordinate, who feels the garrison is one big joke and frequently complains to Pace about the lack of military discipline. Despite this, Pace sticks to his philosophy about not making waves on the Calvardian border, believing that it's the best way to maintain a good relationship with the Republic. While he believes Watch Officer Gerwin to be a well-meaning and respectable soldier, he also believes his subordinate is too prone to rush into things, which he feels only leads to trouble.
Despite his usual policies, Pace quickly steps up security when news about the attack on Central Factory and an order from the top brass to seal off the region reaches Wolf Fort. Like his fellow officers at other checkpoints, Pace is flabbergasted when the inspections are unexpectedly called off while the culprits of the attack are still at large. Pace is not someone to disobey a command from the top, despite disagreeing with it, but since he's heading a border garrison, he's able to work around the command by calling off the security inspections, yet at the same time enforcing stricter border checks, which he, as the officer in charge of the border patrol, is allowed to do.
