Synopsis
Rean Schwarzer is called to Heimdallr by Emperor Eugent to close up some loose ends. Eugent brings Rean to Giliath Osborne's office, where he explains to him that after Osborne died, he had left behind a will entrusting the items to those stated. Osborne had burnt most of his belongings, but the Imperials were able to recover a photo that they assume was stuck in one of his memoirs and hands it to Rean. The photo is that of Osborne, his wife and Rean.
Eugent is surprised that Osborne had a son; however, it was difficult to mourn the man in public when he had also caused the war. Eugent also tells Rean that he is aware that he had engraved his name onto the tomb at the former mansion. Rean states that he did, as he was there for a campus activity and had the time to do so. Eugent asks Rean if he can go visit his and Arianrhod's graves in the future, which Rean is more than happy to oblige.
Rean remarks how he didn't know much about Osborne, but Eugent also reveals that he didn't know much about him either. He tells him that they shouldn't dwell too much on the past and continue pressing on.
Rean returns to campus where he still holds the photo. He remarks that something feels off about it but remarks that he still didn't know much about him, and opts to deal with it another day. As Rean goes to sleep, he is given a vision about Osborne's past and the decisions he made; becoming Ishmelga's Awakener to bring the world to ruination, assembling the Ironbloods and meeting Arianrhod. Osborne remarks how Millium Orion's innocence softened Claire Rieveldt and Lechter Arundel, hoping that she could help them bring back a sense of normalcy, even though she was a means to an end to bring about the Great Twilight.
With the Liberl incident, Osborne stated that he enjoyed Olivert Reise Arnor as an opponent, appreciating the thrill the prince gave him and that they wouldn't stop until one completely defeated the other. After this, he saw a familiar face among Class VII's students, recognizing Rean as his son and how he had grown, but felt guilt over passing down the curse to him, which Rean was unaware of at the time. Later on, he remarks about the Azure Tree incident, Crow Armbrust's appearance and Rean becoming Valimar's Awakener.
Osborne soon remarks about the Gral of Erebos and the Courageous's destruction. Osborne admits that Olivert could repair the nation after the Great Twilight and had mourned the seemingly loss of the prince. He then remarks about how Rean went berserk following Millium's death, since he had been able to keep the curse under check until then. He also wonders if he would survive by the time he regained his senses.
On September 1st, the day before the Great War, Osborne is seen in his office writing something down. He remarks on how Rean has able to crawl out from the depths of despair and continue to grow and persevere with the help of his friends. He wonders how Rean would have turned if he had been alongside him the entire time, before realizing he is growing too soft. Knowing that Rean will inherit the curse should it fully consume him, Osborne vows to not let his son share his inevitable fate. Nonetheless, he prays to the Goddess to bless Rean with a bright future before the vision fades.
Rean comes to once more and wonders what he had just witnessed, wishing to believe it was real. Knowing that he has to do more than pay his respects to his parents, Rean vows to uphold the life that his father and friends had given him. Before he can continue, he hears his students waking up and on the go, so he decides to prepare himself for the day.
