Garrelia Fortress (ガレリア要塞(ようさい)), also known as the Gateway to the Empire, is the largest military base in 에레보니아, housing thousands of soldiers. It is the home base of the 5th Armored Division, and both the garrison and the facility is under direct command of Lieutenant General Walter.

Background

Garrelia Fortress is built partially within a natural cliff resting at the eastern border with 크로스벨, from which the fortress looks like an enormous wall. Apart from the 대륙횡단철도 tunnel and the highway above it, two orbal railway cannons developed by the 라인폴트 그룹 can be seen. The proving grounds near the Garrelia Fortress are used for military exercises of the 에레보니아 제국군.

The railway cannons the fortress is known for are one of the mightiest weapons wrought by the hands of man since the Great Collapse. They are considered to have the longest range of any orbal cannon in the world, capable of targeting any point within 크로스벨. Their destructive power could wipe out Crossbell City and its 500,000 citizens within a couple of hours.

Background

Garrelia Fortress' commander Lieutenant General Walter (unnamed) gives command to prepare its railway cannons.

On October 24, S.1204, after 디터 크로이스 declares Crossbell's independence, and has the IBC freeze all Erebonian and Calvardian assets until it is recognized internationally, both countries attempt to invade the state in retaliation. In response, Crossbell defended itself by having 우로보로스' newly developed humanoid weapons, 아이온 Type-β and 아이온 Type-γ destroy the Erebonian and Calvardian units, respectively.

Erebonia immediately prepared its next attack by readying the railway cannons. The first shot was blocked by the 아이온 Type-α and the second was erased from existence with the power it received from the Sept-Terrion of Zero. The Aion then proceeded to use that same power to teleport to Garrelia Fortress and seemingly annihilate the entire installation surrounding the railway cannons, as well as most of the fortress.

Background

VII반 of 토르즈 사관학교 visit Garrelia Fortress for the second part of their fifth field study following Group A's visit to 레그람 and Group B's to 줄라이. During their stay, they witness a military exercise led by General 올라프 크레이그 using the new 아흐첸 tanks on the proving ground.

On the second day, Class VII receive the news about the 서 제무리아 통상회의, and the appearance of the 제국해방전선, lead by 미하엘 기데온. After Instructor 나이트하르트 is notified about the attack on the conference, the proving grounds Achtzehn tanks begin to go haywire and attack on their own, controlled by automated control units installed due to false orders.

The tanks' attack is a diversion for the ILF to seize the main base. Letting loose Ouroboros' archaisms and detonating their own airship, 스칼렛 and 발칸 lead the terrorists to take control of the railway cannons to fire them at 오르키스 타워, with the objective of assassinating 길리아스 오스본. Class VII, together with Instructors Sara and Neithardt, are able to defeat the terrorists and retake control of the cannons after they fire a blank round. The captured underlings attempt to poison themselves as the leaders escape in an airship with C.

Later, during Thors' festival, the participants are notified that Garrelia Fortress has been destroyed by an unknown weapon. The overwhelming power of Crossbell's new weapons causes uprest in the country, and the assassination of the chancellor in the middle of his declaration of war marks the beginning of the 10월 전역.

Background

A month into the civil war, the proving ground of Garrelia Fortress serves as a base for the 4th Armored Division, the remnants of the 5th and some members of the 철도헌병대, isolated from the rest of the army and withstanding assaults from the Kreuzen Provincial Army.

After Rean and Toval reunite with Machias, Fie and Elliot, they decide to check the state of the fortress and try to find Olaf Craig, Elliot's father. At the fortress' ruins, they're greeted by a trap set by 제노 and 레오니다스, former commanders of 서풍의 여단 and old friends of Fie. With the jaegers being on the payroll of the 귀족 연합, they battle against Class VII, but are interrupted by a squad of Panzer Soldats coming from 쌍룡교, who are trying to perform a pincer attack on the proving ground.

With Xeno and Leonidas backing out, Rean summons 발리마르 and takes one of the Drakkhen's swords, defeating several other Soldats by himself before the 4th Armored Division, having defeated the diversion squad, comes to the counterattack with the aid of 클레어 리벨트. The Provincial Army is forced to retreat, and Class VII is brought back to the proving ground, where they learn of the state of the war from the commanders, returning to 유미르 afterwards with Claire.

Two weeks later, Olaf launches an assault on 쌍룡교 despite 피오나 크레이그 being taken hostage. With the help of Class VII and the 커레이져스, they're able to take the bridge fortress, after which the 4th Armored Division makes it its base, leaving the 5th and Fiona at the proving ground. Around that time, the 환수 Volglyph manifested in the area.

Near the end of the year, the 푸른 거목 that suddenly appeared in Crossbell disappeared, and the missing members of the 5th Armored Division started showing up in the ruins unconscious, being retrieved by the others. After the end of the war and the immediate annexation of Crossbell, Garrelia Fortress is rebuilt, storing 오르디네 and Valimar, the latter while Rean acts as a temporary officer to defend Crossbell against 칼바드.
