Spence is an inhabitant of the town of Bose.
He's a merchant who creates and sells balms, salves and other medication at his stall in the Bose Market although he has recently started carrying Eastern medicine as well. Spence seems to be in contact with the local preacher, Father Holstein, who keeps him in the loop when new recipes for medication become available.
During the course of Trails in the Sky FC, it is revealed that Spence's shop seems to be doing well, and has a very good reputation in town. He himself received an award from Mayor Maybelle for the most scrupulous shop in Bose about a month ago. Business is going so well that he's been playing with the thought of hiring some additional help, but he also admits that if he were to do that, he'd probably end up missing the face-to-face contact with his customers.
After receiving a note from Father Holstein about new medication, he hires Estelle, Joshua and Scherazard to investigate the location of bear claws in the Bose region, since the plant is needed for the recipe, but Mistwald is too far away to be a reliable source. Estelle and the others end up finding additional bear claws in Nebel Valley and alert Spence to this fact.
