Berna is an woman met in the city of Bose.
She's a traveller who initially planned to go to Grancel, but she was left stranded at the Bose airport after the disappearance of the Linde caused air traffic to be shut down. As such, she has nothing to do except wait until the airspace above the Bose region is reopened. Even though doing so would involve a slightly longer trip, she considers just taking the Cecilia to travel to Grancel through Ruan and Zeiss rather than waiting for the Linde to resurface. She's still taking the air travelling ban better than most people in Bose, since she's not in a hurry and can afford to take it easy for a while, her main gripe is not knowing when air traffic will resume.
She eventually gets to resume her trip after the Linde case is resolved and the orbalships resume their flight.
