S-Craft

S-Crafts (Sクラフト) are special crafts that consume all CP of the selected character. At least 100CP is required to use an S-Craft and their strength is boosted if used at 200CP.

Though almost all S-Crafts are used to attack, they can occasionally heal or apply protective buffs.

S-Breaks

S-Crafts can be used instantly, regardless of the user's placement in the turn order list. This is called 'S-Break.' S-Breaks can be highly effective when used at the right time, interrupting enemies and stealing AT bonuses that they would otherwise have received. A common tactic is to attack or use a Craft, then follow up immediately using S-Break. Another useful move is to use an item to restore CP, then carefully time activation of the S-Break after the CP has been restored but before the enemy can act.

Unlike normal attacks, S-Crafts are not capable of guard-breaking enemies. This is also true on turns with a 'Critical' AT bonus, so determining when best to use S-Crafts and S-Breaks can prove crucial to victory.

While a character may have more than one S-Craft, only a single S-Break is available at any given time. Outside of battle, which S-Craft is used as the S-Break can be set from the menu. On occasion, if an S-Craft is unlocked as part of the storyline, the game may ask the player if they wish to set it as an S-Break immediately, without having to do so from the menu.

Any character may use their S-Break at any given time if available. As such, another common strategy is to finish an enemy or enemies at low health by attacking using multiple S-Breaks before they can act again.

For both player characters and opponents, using S-Craft generally results in a heavy delay before their next turn. For players, however, this can be negated to some degree via certain equipment or quartz. Additionally, if the character regains enough CP to again use S-Craft, they may use it again immediately via S-Break.

If a character was in the process of casting an orbal art at the time when the S-Break was activated, casting of the art will be canceled and the S-Craft used instead.

S-Crafts and the Zero CP bonus

In the re-balanced Evolution versions of Sora no Kiseki, S-Crafts can be used regardless of CP with the 'Zero CP' AT bonus. If a character has less than 100CP, he or she cannot use S-Breaks; however, if a character has more than 100CP, he or she can use an S-Break at no additional cost.

This feature returns in 영웅전설 시작의 궤적 where S-crafts can be used on 'Zero CP' AT bonuses regardless of remaining CP. However, if being used as an S-Break, the character must still have at least 100 CP, though no CP will be consumed.

Trivia

• In both Cold Steel III and IV, Rean Schwarzer and Kurt Vander have moves which will cause the player to temporarily lose control of them after three turns, specifically Kurt's Blade Dance and Rean's Demon Unchained. If the player activates an S-Break following the execution of the third turn, the attempt to use the S-Break will fail. No visible indicator of this is given in Cold Steel III, though in IV, the indicator "SBreak Failed" appears over the character.
• In 영웅전설 하늘의 궤적 the 3rd, many boss fights found behind Memory Doors give bosses a seemingly infinite CP pool, in some cases allowing them to immediately spam crafts after having used S-Craft, even though theoretically they should not have the CP to do so.
• In 영웅전설 제로의 궤적 and 영웅전설 벽의 궤적, if the player activates an S-Break during a Rush battle order bonus, the character using the S-Break will be granted a normal turn following it.
• S-Crafts in Kuro no Kiseki have no cut-in, but Kuro no Kiseki II brings it back.
• Ixs and Jolda are unique in possessing a combined S-Craft which can only be used when both are present.
• During the battle in Cold Steel IV wherein Rean first uses the S-Craft Breaking Dawn, it is not possible to execute it via S-Break. It will be shown as locked out and instead must be executed from the normal craft menu.
