The students had a chance to bond during the April field exercises conducted in Sutherland, as well as their new club activities. The bonds between the branch campus staff grew stronger as well. After returning to the dorms, Rean became too engrossed in his paperwork and accidentally skipped dinner. He ran into Randolph that night at the tavern. They broke down the walls put in place by their positions and opened up to each other over dinner and drinks. By night's end, they were on a first-name basis. When Rean returned to his room after dinner, he was startled by an unexpected call on his ARCUS II. He opened the terminal and saw that it was one of his former classmates from Class VII, Machias Regnitz, on the screen. Now an Imperial inspector, Machias had managed to learn the whereabouts of the next field exercise camp and informed Rean that he might be in the area as well.

The day after Rean and Randy became friends, a briefing was held for the next field exercises. After a surprise appearance by the crown prince, Cedric Reise Arnor, the briefing began, where Rean and the other instructors learned from Major Michael and Prince Cedric that the location of the next field exercises would be the Empire's newest province--Crossbell. After the briefing, Prince Cedric met with Rean and asked him to transfer to the main campus, but Rean courteously declined. When Class VII interrupted their conversation, Prince Cedric offered to transfer Kurt and Altina to the main campus in an attempt to change Rean's mind. As the crown prince made his departure, he told Rean that he would expect a final answer the following day. After returning to the dorm to rest, Rean contacted Machias. They talked about their upcoming trips to Crossbell and discussed Prince Cedric's attempt to poach Rean for the main campus.

The next day, the branch campus conducted their Panzer Soldat training exercises. While Rean and the others were in the middle of their training, a crimson Panzer Soldat accompanied by two more units burst onto the scene. The pilot, Crown Prince Cedric, challenged Class VII, but Juna, angered by his attitude, rose to the challenge and emerged victorious with Kurt and Ash's help. Despite his defeat, the prince did not change his condescending attitude towards the branch campus, nor his fixation on Rean, and haughtily returned to the main campus.

Ever since she had learned that the field exercises were being conducted in Crossbell, her homeland, Juna had seemed distracted. Before long, the day they were to leave for the field exercise camp arrived. The branch campus boarded the Derfflinger after a farewell speech from Principal Aurelia and left for Crossbell.
