7/24 (Sat) Field Study at Heimdallr - Day 1
  • Elliot, Machias, and I decided to gather before Laura and Fie arrived to discuss what to do about them, but we couldn't come up with any ideas.
  • The two of them seemed determined to sort out their issues during this field study on their own, though.
  • With the Fie-Laura problem fresh in our minds, we headed off to the station.
  • We reunited with Group B at the station and headed off to purchase our tickets.
  • Both groups boarded the train together, and Machias and Elliot told us more about Heimdallr. It's one of the largest cities on the continent, but luckily for us, Instructor Sara arranged for a guide to meet us when we arrived.
  • Before long, we reached Heimdallr, where we found Captain Claire of the Railway Military Police waiting for us and, in addition, Machias' father, Governor Regnitz.
  • He told us that, like Rufus and Chairman Irina, he is also a member of the academy's board of directors, so it fell to him to organize our field study tasks and arrange for a place for us to stay.
  • Our field study will take three days, with the third coinciding with the first day of the Summer Festival. My group, Group A, will be focusing on the area to the east of Vainqueur Street.
  • The governor gave us a piece of paper with an address written on it, as well as a key, and asked us to find our lodgings ourselves. ...He's pretty playful for a governor.
  • We parted ways with Group B, and boarded the tram for Alto Street.
  • When we arrived, we visit Elliot's house before starting to look for our lodgings. It was a two-story house facing out onto the road.
  • Elliot's older sister, Fiona, welcomed us into their house with open arms, much to Elliot's embarrassment.
  • As it turns out, Elliot's father is the famous Craig the Red, commanding officer of the 4th Armored Division. That's how Elliot knew Instructor Neithardt before he attended the academy.
  • We asked Fiona about the address we were given, and she told us that it's a former guild branch, where an old friend of hers used to work.
  • After promising that we would return for dinner this evening, we left to find our lodgings.
  • We used the key the governor had given us to enter the former Bracer Guild branch, and found that it's currently owned by the local government.
  • We put our belongings in our rooms and set about reading the envelope containing our tasks that we were given by the governor.
  • We should get started on our tasks right away. There are three mandatory ones that we need to complete... We should try and tour all the districts we've been assigned while working through them.
  • We ran into Group B in Dreichels Plaza and exchanged information. Turns out they're in an old guild branch, too.
  • We agreed to call each other when we're at a good point to stop for lunch, so we could eat and talk about what we've been up to.
  • We fulfilled the request from Norton!
  • We fulfilled the request from Jasmine!
  • We had a request from the owner of a hotel in the Garnier District, but he wasn't in when we checked... We had to leave it until later.
  • We met up with Group B at the department store on Vainqueur Street, and had a great lunch together. Even though I felt like Laura and Fie could work through their own issues, things weren't exactly comfortable between them...
  • We separated with Group B and got back to our respective tasks. Hoping the hotel owner had returned, we made our way back to the Garnier District.
  • As we were being informed of the details of our task at the hotel, a woman in a beautiful dress called out to us. She was an opera singer by the name of Vita Clotilde, also known as the Azure Diva.
  • After giving us a little encouragement, she left for a rehearsal.
  • After pacifying Elliot and Machias, who were more than a little excited to have met her, we set off to exterminate the monster in the underground passage.
  • We were able to exterminate the monster in the underground passage, but Laura and Fie were unable to form a combat link.
  • This was getting on my nerves. They're not fundamentally incompatible--there just seems to be something getting in the way of the two of them clicking with each other. I decided to withdraw from the front line so that they could work together and figure out what it was.
  • After that, we started heading back to the hotel.
  • On the way back, Elliot heard the sound of a sonata in the distance.
  • Fie found the entrance to a hidden passage connected to the surface. The only problem was getting it open.
  • We were able to open the entrance to the hidden passage and see where it led to.
  • The passage led us right into Mater Park.
  • Conveniently enough, the people playing the sonata were actually old friends of Elliot's, so we decided to go introduce ourselves.
  • Apparently, Elliot's friends all go to the Music Academy here. He seemed kind of conflicted when he ran into them, but since it was getting dark, our meeting was cut a bit short as we wanted to return to the hotel. Once we reported our progress, we headed over to Elliot's house.
  • After enjoying a delicious dinner prepared by Fiona, we were shown up to Elliot's room, which was full of instruments. There, he told us that his mother was a pianist, and about how he had originally wanted to attend the Music Academy, too. He ultimately was forced to abandon that dream and come to Thors instead.
  • Despite all this, he said without the slightest hint of embarrassment that he was glad that he chose to come to Thors, because it allowed him to meet all of us.
  • While we were walking back to the guild, Laura and Fie came to the conclusion that the best way to work out their issues was with a duel against one another, as soon as possible.
  • Dragging Machias and me along, they boarded a tram to Mater Park.
  • We returned to Mater Park. Laura and Fie's battleground: the gazebo we passed through earlier.
  • Laura and Fie prepared to battle in a quiet area of the park. They revealed how they really felt about one another and agreed that if Fie lost the duel, she would tell Laura about her past.
  • The battle ended in a draw, but Fie declared that she was at an advantage thanks to the cover of night, and therefore, it should be counted as her loss.
  • Fie told us that as a child, she was part of the Zephyr corps, and she lived on the battlefield as long as she could remember, earning the nickname 'Sylphid' for her work.
  • With Fie's past revealed, Laura and Fie finally felt as though they could understand one another and wanted to test if they could form a combat link right away...against Machias and me.
  • They were more than successful and destroyed the two of us in battle. Unfortunately, the noise attracted a little unwanted attention from the Heimdallr Military Police... Still, it was worth it to see Laura and Fie finally link with one another.
7/25 (Sun) Field Study at Heimdallr - Day 2
  • The morning of the second day of our field study came, and after eating breakfast at Elliot's house, we got working on our tasks.
  • We thought it'd be best to save the monster extermination at Heimdallr Port until last.
  • We exterminated a monster in an underground waterway under Heimdallr Port. Laura and Fie were getting along perfectly now, too. Then we went back to the port and gave our report.
  • On our way back, we found the entrance to a hidden passage, just like one we explored yesterday. We decided to try to open it.
  • Once we did, we went in to see where it led.
  • We found ourselves in the Ost District, where Machias' house is. These underground passages can really take you anywhere!
  • We heard a chime, indicating that it was noon, and decided to stop by Machias' house to have lunch.
  • After treating us to some fancy coffee, Machias told us about the reason he came to hate the nobility: the death of his cousin.
  • It seems as though the time he's spent as part of our class has allowed him to start to change his perspective on the nobility, however, even if he's not going to get along with Jusis any time soon. Still, we all appreciate him telling us all of this.
  • As we left Machias' house, Governor Regnitz called and asked us to take on an extra request. There had been a theft at a jewelers in the Garnier District. We reported on our monster extermination and hoofed it over there.
  • We were able to recover the Crimson Tiara from Phantom Thief B. He still has plenty of mysteries surrounding him, though, not least of which is why he chose to specifically nominate us.
  • After returning the tiara, I received a call from Instructor Sara, telling us to go to St. Astraia Girls' School.
  • I had no idea what was waiting for us, but as soon as we'd finished everything we needed to do, we caught a tram to the Sankt District.
  • While we were talking in front of the gate to St. Astraia, the members of Group B appeared.
  • As the chime to signal 5 o'clock rang, Elise walked out to greet us. Apparently, she knew the person who called us to the academy.
  • We were led to an indoor garden, where we found none other than the princess of Erebonia, Princess Alfin, waiting for us.
  • It turns out that she, too, invited us on someone else's behalf, however--Prince Olivert Reise Arnor, chairman of Thors' board of directors.
  • Apparently, Prince Olivert was the one responsible for Class VII in the first place. He told us that our field studies were intended to allow us to see the many obstacles and conflicts that exist in the Empire and encourage us to face them head on, without looking away. His words cleared up some of the doubts in our minds.
  • We were also shocked to find out that our instructor, who was chosen by the principal to support us, was once an A-rank bracer with the nickname 'Purple Lightning.'
  • Princess Alfin also invited me to dance with her at the garden party...but I'm pretty sure she was just teasing me. I didn't just lose my chance to marry into the royal family, did I? No. Couldn't have. Let's not be silly here.
  • After parting ways with Elise at the gate, we ran into Instructor Sara and Captain Claire. Captain Claire told us that the Railway Military Police has something they want us to help with in place of our field study tasks tomorrow.
  • We were informed that the terrorists, one of whom we met in the Nord Highlands, are planning to do something during the Summer Festival. The captain proposed that we serve as a reserve force as part of the security measures. Naturally, we agreed.
  • We returned to the guild with Instructor Sara, who told us about how the Bracer Guild stopped operating in the capital due to a brutal attack by the Jester jaeger corps.
  • After hearing her story, it was clear to us why she doesn't think very highly of Chancellor Osborne and the Railway Military Police.
  • We finished writing our report and went to bed early. Both groups have a long day tomorrow, and we're going to need to contribute as much as possible to keeping this city safe.
  • I awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of footsteps in the hallway. It sounded like someone went downstairs.
  • I found Instructor Sara in front of the reception desk downstairs, reminiscing about the past. It seems like the guild was really important to her.
  • We've got a busy day ahead of us tomorrow, so it's time for bed for real this time.
