Background
On the first day of Group A's field study, they're tasked with defeating a monster in the canyon path. During the fight, Machias and Jusis' squabbling causes Rean to be injured by the monster before Fie is able to finish it. Despite Emma's healing, Rean is unable to fight until they report to Aurochs Fort and return.
On the way, they see several Achtzehn tanks being delivered to the fort, which they note as a significant upgrade in firepower for the Kreuzen Provincial Army. During the return, Group A spots a flying girl from the direction of the fort, followed by a squad of soldiers from the fort on the chase, asking the group if they witnessed the intruder. Despite the chase, they're unable to catch up, putting the blame on Machias and arresting him the next day.

Background
In Bareahard, Rean and Jusis agree to a duel at the canyon to decide whether Jusis rejoins Class VII. After racing to the designated location, Rean on Angelica's motorcycle that Jusis had kept safe, they fight, with Rean coming out on top. Before the group can rejoice, they're ambushed by Duvalie and McBurn, trying to capture them for the Noble Alliance.
McBurn easily defeats them all, but they're saved by the intervention of Sara Valestein, who was warned by Jusis beforehand. However, the fighting has brought the attention of the Kreuzen Provincial Army and Duke Albarea, sending a new Hector Panzer Soldat to bring Jusis with them. After the Ouroboros members leave, Rean and Valimar are able to defeat the Provincial Army forces, and immediately leave with the rest of the group to the Spirit Path, returning to Ymir.
