- 6/15 (Tue) After School
- Tomorrow, the dreaded midterms will finally begin. As icing on the cake, our individual scores, our ranking in our year, and even our class averages will be displayed for the world to see.
- Once homeroom was over, everyone's stayed on campus to study. I thought it wise to walk around and find someone to study with.
- I studied orbal science with Elliot and Machias. Battle orbments' key features are as follows:
·The orbal energy inside them replenishes over time.
·They synchronize with their user, strengthening their abilities and allowing them to use arts.
·Their capabilities change depending on what quartz are set inside them. - I studied military science with Jusis and Gaius. I'm not used to all of these military symbols, but we went over 'infantry,' 'headquarters,' 'armor,' and 'engineer'... I'll have to make sure I've got them all down before the exams.
- I studied Erebonian history with Fie and Emma. The War of the Lions concluded in year 952 of the Septian Calendar. ...Questions involving years seem really likely to come up on the exam. Hopefully Emma's method will work.
- I studied art with Alisa and Laura. We asked each other questions on the following drawing styles:
·Dessin - Using monochrome lines and differing brush techniques to draw an object and outline its tones.
·Sketch - Portraying a subject roughly, without much in the way of detail.
·Croquis - A faster, simpler form of sketching. - Towa and Angelica taught me about political economics. Apparently, the 'Financial Transactions Act,' 'Imperial Transportation Act' and 'Provisional Taxation Act' are three recent and important laws. It might be good to note that the 'Imperial Transportation Act' was enacted in Heimdallr before being introduced anywhere else.
- Crow and George helped me brush up on my practical skills. Apparently, the correct procedure to perform CPR is as follows:
1) Check if the person is conscious.
2) Call for help in a loud voice.
3) Check if the person is breathing.
4) Perform chest compressions and rescue breaths.
This is useful knowledge for more than just exams, so I'd better make sure I remember it. - Instructor Makarov helped me review some aspects of orbal science that I wasn't feeling great about.
- Instructor Mary helped me study some aspects of art that I wasn't feeling confident about.
- Instructor Thomas helped me study against my will.
- Beryl prophesied what would come up on the orbal science exam. She's definitely just guessing, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to keep it in mind.
- I studied with Linde and Vivi for a while.
- I learned a handy method of efficient memorization by listening to Hugo and Becky argue.
- I read a book called 'Political Economics: A Primer' in the library.
- I read a book called 'Erebonian History in Pictures' in the Literature Clubroom.
- I read a book called 'Erebonian Opera and Paintings' in the music room.
- I read a book called 'Military Science: A Primer' in the gymnasium.
- As I left the main building, I was greeted by a mysterious woman in a maid uniform. She seemed to know my name, too...
- I ran into Alisa, who was also on her way back to the dormitory, so we decided to walk together. As we walked, we talked about her family and Fie's past...but she seemed strangely interested in the woman who greeted me earlier.
- 6/16 (Wed) - 6/19 (Sat) Midterm Examinations
- Our four days of midterm hell had finally arrived. We were tested on all of our subjects: Erebonian history, art, military science, orbal science, political economics, and practical skills. Somehow, though, I managed to work my way through every the questions on every exam.
- When we met for homeroom after it was all over, everyone was clearly exhausted. There was little time for us to rest, though, since Instructor Sara had already lined up a practical exam and field study for this month. I like to do a lot on my free days, but tomorrow, I'm going to rest.
- We were on our way back to the dormitory when, we were greeted by the maid who spoke to me yesterday. Even more surprising, it turns out that she's a servant of the Reinford family. As in, the owners of Erebonia's largest heavy industry company. Who'd have thought Alisa would have all that clout?
- 6/20 (Sun) Free Day
- We began our free day by watching Alisa and Sharon. I couldn't help but smile at how well they got along (not that Alisa would ever admit it).
- I received a request from George and Angelica regarding the orbal bike. I decided to take care of that before going over to the schoolhouse.
- I finished the Engineering Club's request... Oh, man... I really want to ride that bike again.
- After that, I took care of my other tasks and made my way to the schoolhouse.
- This month's investigation confirmed that the number of floors we can explore increases by one every month. It's almost as if someone or something is testing us...
- It was so late by the time we were done that going to the dorm sounded very appealing.
- Instructor Sara and I both arrived back at the dorm around the same time. She seemed really tired, though. Where has she been, anyway?
- Sharon met us with a warm welcome, but it had the opposite effect on Instructor Sara that it had on me. Do they know each other?
- I checked my mailbox to find a letter from my younger sister, Elise.
- In her letter, she said she's having a great time with school and is blessed with wonderful friends. That's nice to hear. I'll have to write her a reply.
- Tonight's Abend Time was focused on the various summer festivals going on all over the country. It sounds like the host, Misty, keeps herself busy.
- 6/23 (Wed) AM - Midterm Exam Results Announcement
- During our lunch break, the long-awaited, long-feared midterm results were announced.
- I scored 7th highest in the year. I don't think I could have done any better! (When earning 3 bonus AP on the midterms)
- I scored the 15th highest in the year. I'll take it--I'm happy with that! (When earning 2 bonus AP on the midterms)
- I scored the 35th highest in the year. Could've been worse, could've been better. (When earning 1 bonus AP on the midterms)
- I scored the 52nd highest in the year... I've got to rethink my study habits... (When earning no bonus AP on the midterms)
- I was happy to see that Class VII had a higher average score than Class I, making us the highest scoring first-year class. All that studying everyone did really paid off! (When earning 3 bonus AP on the midterms)
- 6/23 (Wed) PM - Practical Exam
- Our first practical exam after the midterms pitted us once again against the readjusted combat shell. ...Looking at it reminded me of that silver object we saw in the sky near Bareahard.
- Before we could fight it, however, Patrick of Class I showed up challenged us to a battle in the most irritating way possible.
- Instructor Sara didn't skip a beat, though, and told Elliot, Machias, Gaius, and me to fight Patrick and three of his friends four on four.
- Patrick's a challenging opponent, but we took him down with style, putting all of the skills developed during our time at the academy to use. (When earning 2 bonus AP in the fight)
- It was a challenging fight, but we used of all the skills we've developed during our time at the academy to beat him fair and square. (When earning 1 bonus AP in the fight)
- It wasn't pretty, and you wouldn't think we were military academy students if you saw it, but we barely managed to squeak out a victory. (When earning no bonus AP in the fight)
- Patrick couldn't bring himself to accept his defeat, though, and burst into an abusive tirade.
- As he did so, Gaius pointed out a fundamental problem in the Empire's class system, which made us all stop and think about what it means to be a citizen of Erebonia.
- Patrick eventually slunk off, looking thoroughly unsatisfied. Once he left, we were told where we would be heading for our next field study.
- The groups and their destinations this month are be as follows: Group A: Rean, Alisa, Emma, Jusis, Gaius (Study Location: Nord Highlands) Group B: Machias, Elliot, Laura, Fie (Study Location: Bryonia Island) Looks like I'll be going to the Nord Highlands, a foreign land to the northeast of the Empire, and Gaius' home.
