Master quartz (マスタークオーツ) are a new type of quartz introduced in 영웅전설 벽의 궤적 that have remained present in the series until (and including) 영웅전설 시작의 궤적.

Description

There are several differences between regular quartz and master quartz: they are unique, with only one of each being obtainable (save for guest characters); they can only be equipped in their own special slot in the center of the orbment; and they can gain experience and level up, improving their stats and abilities.

Experience

영웅전설 벽의 궤적

The experience gained by the master quartz is 10% of the experience gained by the character it's equipped on. If level and status is carried over from previous 벽의 궤적 Clear Data, the experience gained by the Master quartz is 10% of the experience the character would gain without being corrected by the level difference.

Level Exp to Next Total Exp
1 1100 0
2 1400 1100
3 1600 2500
4 2800 4100
5 6900

영웅전설 섬의 궤적

The experience gained by the master quartz is independent from the level of the character it's equipped on. Instead, the difference between the monster's level and the master quartz's level ×10 determines how the experience is modified: if the monster's level is higher and the master quartz is not at level 4, for each level the monster's experience is increased by 5%, up to double the original experience; if the monster's level is lower and the master quartz is not at level 1, for each level the monster's experience is decreased by 10%, down to 5% of the original experience. The experience the master quartz gains is 10% of this modified experience.

Level Exp to Next Total Exp
1 1300 0
2 6200 1300
3 7500 7500
4 15000 15000
5 30000

영웅전설 섬의 궤적 II

The experience gained by the master quartz is calculated in the same way as regular experience, according to the master quartz's level. Each master quartz level has an equivalent level that the enemy's level is compared against when calculating, and the total experience gained by the master quartz is 10% of the final experience a character with the equivalent level would earn.

Level Eq. Level Exp to Next Total Exp
1 48 7200 0
2 62 15800 7200
3 80 26000 23000
4 102 41000 49000
5 90000

Master Arts

See also the list of Master Arts.

In 벽의 궤적 only, leveling a master quartz to 5 allows for the user to cast a Master Art according to the master quartz's element. When cast, Master Arts have an immediate effect and a secondary effect that lasts until the user stops casting the Master Art. The user has the option to continue casting once their next turn arrives, which will consume EP and deal damage of the same element to all enemies. The user cannot evade attacks or perform other actions while casting, but a Combo Craft involving the caster initiated by another character will stop the casting.

At the time of its introduction, the master quartz contrasted with normal, rectangular quartz in its larger size and round shape with each of the seven elements having three different types available. Master quartz are equipped in the center of the combat orbment.

What makes the master quartz unique is that, unlike normal quartz, they level alongside its user. The higher its level, the more of its elements' orbal arts the user is able to use, as well as the greater stat boost provided. Furthermore, master quartz also grant a number of additional effects that increase in effectiveness, and number depending on the type, by level. Exclusively to Trails to Azure, reaching the highest unlocked master arts (マスター・アーツ, masutaa aatsu). These particular features make the master quartz so rare that they are not mass-produced and only one of each can be obtained in the games by the party. Although, in certain circumstances a guest character may possess a master quartz already in possession of, or separate to, the party but labelled with an "EX" to distinguish in-game. This is evidence that while master quartz are rare, they aren't unique.

Sub-master Slot

The ARCUS II orbment introduced in 섬의 궤적 III includes an additional slot for a master quartz called the sub-master. A master quartz can be equipped here to obtain its benefits and arts, though only half of the master quartz's stat bonuses and the first special ability will be active. Additionally, a single master quartz can be equipped in two different characters' orbments, one in a master slot and another in a sub-master slot.
