Provides furigana for terms. Places katakana or hiragana (or other text) above Japanese text to tell a Japanese speaker how to pronounce it.

Syntax

{{furi|Base|Ruby|Base|Ruby|...}}

The template accepts up to 20 unnamed parameters (10 Base-Ruby pairs). The odd parameters provide the "base" text (kanji or kana term), and the even parameters that follow them provide the "ruby" text (kana above). The even parameters can be left empty (see below) to not provide furigana for a part of the term.

The extra parameter, "romaji", was an optional parameter that provides an English reader with a romaji form of the term, placed after the unit. This parameter was removed on 2018-11-09. Since romaji was intended to provide a way for English speakers (the audience of this wiki) to pronounce Japanese words, we now strongly suggest that they learn how to read katakana and hiragana, the two alphabets of the language, and read the furigana. By doing so, one can understand the proper pronunciation of any romaji.

Notice: Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome users will experience a slightly different appearance from Mozilla Firefox. To work around the older standards used by Edge and Chrome, the fallback text is not placed after the entire unit and may appear in an unintended manner in external embeds (such as on Discord).

Notice: Please use this template all as one unit, not as separate instances for the same phrase.
