Poms (ポム) are an iconic recurring enemy in the series.

Characteristics

Poms are typically small white fluffy monsters resembling an animate ball of cotton wool or candy floss. They usually have one or two small fluffy appendages that resemble short stubby ears or arms and a darker revealed area with eyes and what may be a mouth. Several varieties of pom exist, including color variations such as mint, violet and grass.

They are quite active, constantly bouncing around and travelling in large numbers.

Shining Poms

A certain, special variety of poms exist called a Shining Pom (シャイニングポム) These dastardly fluffs are pure white in colour and appear to float upon the air, in addition to having small angelic wings, a golden halo and a glowing aura radiating from them. They are well known for dropping T-Anklets and Crest Charms, as well as large numbers of sepith and XP. Unlike regular monsters, their appearance is not predetermined and is randomised upon entry to a map area. they are also highly likely to flee and nigh-invulnerable to any attacks apart from S- Crafts. Shining Poms are no longer encounterable in game starting from 영웅전설 섬의 궤적 I, II, III, and IV other than in downloadable content, although Golden poms can start to be found as hidden encounters in the shadows of stronger field monsters.

Deep within the Abyss of Phantasma, an almighty version of the Shining pom exists named the Tempest Pom. This incredibly powerful monster is far larger than other shining poms and has six more acting as its guard.

Background

Poms are ubiquitous enemy monsters and can be found all over Zemuria. They are well known for travelling in larger numbers, or swarms and for their distinctive attacks capable of draining CP. Despite their deadliness, the people of Zemuria are quite fond of their generally cute and defenceless appearing nature and large amounts of pom-based merchandise and goods is available to be purchased.

Such merchandise includes food based goods such as deep fried poms, chocolate covered poms, pom shaped ice-cream, poms-on-a-stick, poms-in-blankets and much more. Futhermore, plushies, hats and beanies of poms are also available. Anton buys Fran Seeker one such white pom hat. In the winter, snow-poms are often made out of snow. Merchants are quick to use pom based similes and metaphors when advertising goods such as "shinier than the shiniest pom!" or "These goods will move faster than a shining pom!"

Poms are also used as insults, such as 'Go and choke on a pom!" or "all the creativity and dexterity of a drunk pom."

Poms are also the main attraction of the app developed to test network communications by the Epstein Foundation, namely Pom! Pom! Party!. In this game, players compete against each otehr to create chains of the same coloured poms in order to rack up points and defeat their opponent. A master of this game is known as a 'Pom master'
