Orbal Staff

Orbal Staffs (魔導杖) are mechanical staff orbments used by arts users.

Background

Orbal Staffs are described as metal rods with orbal capabilities. The built in orbment allows users to cast arts instananeously. Mariabell Crois also notes that the staff acts as a conduit for augmented terminal control. Some staffs also contain additional features, such as the Aeon System packaged with Tio Plato's orbal staff.

The orbal staff was developed by a team from the Epstein Foundation, headed by Roberts. Roberts mentions the staff uses a core system which he keeps backups of. Tio has also been a part of the orbal staff development team since the beginning, having been recruited for her enhanced sensory perception. Tio's deployment to Crossbell and the Special Support Section was chiefly for the purpose of obtaining combat data for the staff in practical situations. Roberts frequently visist her to provide or test upgrades, enrolling the SSS as well. Roberts drops newer models by Gironde periodically.

Despite the creation of the the orbal staff by the Foundation, Renne notes that a very similar device was already in use by Georg Weissmann and Ouroboros may already have access to that technology, possibly being the source.

Later, the Reinford Group collaborates with the Foundation to create a new series of orbal staves. Two members of the experimental Class VII are selected to act as testers, Elliot Craig and Emma Millstein who showed high apitude for them in tests. Elliot's staff can transform into a violin type device and Emma has familiarity with the orbal staves from her own village and heritage.

Musse Egret carries a weapon derived from the orbal staff known as an arts rifle.
