Background
According to Erebonian Folklore, the Nosferatu is a fiend known as an Immortal King which is said to take the lives of all who look upon it. Their origins are a mystery but the folklore in some provinces regard them as similar to the Grim Reaper. It has also been said that it is the form an ancient tribe took after being liberated from the shackles of 'life'.
Two origins for Nosferatu are named in the series. At first they are named for the group of mages in the middles ages who sought immortality using the forbidden spell False Soul(反魂). It never successfully resurrected anyone, instead transforming them into Nosferatu. The second origin is that a Nosferatu is created when an Awakener dies while their Divine Knight is also fatally damaged. In the Realm of the Great Shadow, each sword marks a fallen awakener, suggesting that many hundred exist.
A more powerful version is the Lucifuge. It is described as a Nosferatu that changed due to the loss of balance in Erebonia. It curses the souls of all and gives nightmares. It has increased powers, seemingly able to spread thick fog and weaken the barrier between worlds allowing creatures from other realms of existence to emerge.
The Albarea family has two ancestral swords named 'Elvers' and 'Ishnard' that have been handed down from previous generations. they were said to have used to fight Nosferatu in the ancient past. Jusis Albarea uses the silver sword Elvers and Rufus Albarea used the golden sword 'Ishnard' for a time.
영웅전설 하늘의 궤적 the 3rd
A powerful robed skeletal enemy called a Lucifuge appears as one of the four bosses fought in the Abyss on the seventh plane of Phantasma.
영웅전설 섬의 궤적 I and II
During 영웅전설 섬의 궤적, it manifests in Lohengrin Castle and attacks Class VII. At the end of the fight, it paralyzes the Thors students and readies a new attack. Before its attack could land, the orb it emerged from was pierced by Arianrhod, who threw her lance from a balcony, and disappeared as the students regained their freedom.
During 영웅전설 섬의 궤적 II, disturbances in the septium veins caused it to re-appear in Legram as Lucifuge, enveloping the town in a thick layer of fog. Class VII explore Lohengrin Castle once again and in the underground area find Lucifuge, which they believe is an even more powerful Immortal King Nosferatu responsible for the strange happenings around Legram. After defeating the being, the mist around the town disappears. During the assault on Infernal Castle, Nosferatu are again encountered multiple times throughout the dungeon.
영웅전설 섬의 궤적 III and IV
Nosferatu appears en masse in 영웅전설 섬의 궤적 III within the catacombs beneath Heimdallr. Some explanation is also given of their origins during these events. They are also present across Erebonia during the Great Twilight and appear in spiritual locations such as the Spirit Shrines and the Sanctuary of Zoro-Agruga.
In 영웅전설 섬의 궤적 IV, when Class VII ambush a group of Hercules soldiers under the effect of the curse in Avon Hills, after learning their location from Cody, the soldiers summon a Lucifuge to attack them, though Class VII defeat it. They summon another Lucifuge, though it turns on them. Before it can kill Hercules, Gaius Worzel uses his Stigma to kill it with a surprise attack from an aircraft. Multiple Lucifuge later show up in Hamel when Joshua Bright, Renne, Estelle Bright, Agate Crosner, Tita Russell, and Class VII tried to show their respects there.
영웅전설 시작의 궤적
Many Lucifuge can be found on the third stratum within the True Reverie Corridor.
